Kia Sorento Production Begins in India
Kia has started production of the Sorento at its Anantapur manufacturing facility, with the first India-made unit rolling off the assembly line. The plant has been the base for Kia’s manufacturing operations in India since production began in 2019.
The locally produced Sorento will be positioned as Kia’s flagship SUV in India and will compete in the premium three-row SUV space. The company says the India-spec model has been developed with local customers in mind.
Kia Sorento: Powertrains
The Sorento will mark an important step in Kia India’s electrification plans. It will be the company’s first hybrid SUV in the Indian market and will come with an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system.
Alongside the hybrid powertrain, Kia will also offer the Sorento with a diesel engine. This gives buyers the option to choose between electrified and conventional diesel power depending on their driving requirements.
The company has not yet revealed detailed specifications, including engine outputs, battery capacity, fuel efficiency and performance figures.
Live Generative AI to Make Global Debut
One of the biggest technology highlights of the India-bound Sorento will be Kia’s AI Assistant, which uses Live Generative AI. According to Kia, the India-spec Sorento will be the first model globally to introduce this technology.

Kia Sorento: Design
The first images show the Sorento with a large and commanding SUV stance, along with Kia’s latest global design language. The SUV gets distinctive exterior detailing and a premium-looking cabin designed for three-row seating.
The Sorento is expected to bring a more upscale positioning to Kia’s India line-up, sitting above the brand’s existing SUVs in terms of size, technology and features.
Kia Sorento: Bookings Open
Kia India has already started accepting pre-bookings for the Sorento through its dealerships and official website. The company is expected to reveal more details about the SUV, including its full specifications, variants and pricing, closer to the launch.
