The Indian division of the luxury German automaker Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for diesel cars in the country. The recall issued by the automaker affects multiple diesel iterations of Mercedes-Benz luxury cars.

The recall issued by Mercedes-Benz India affects diesel models of GLE, GLC, E-Class, C-Class and S-Class. The details shared about the same highlight that this recall affects these models produced between 31st March, 30th June 2021 till 31 August 2021. The details also indicate that a total of 182 units of Mercedes-Benz diesel cars are affected by this recall.
The reason cited for this recall states that there might be a potential issue related to the coolant leakage in these vehicles. The system may leak which can affect the functioning of some components and even poses thermal risk.
The details of this recall state that, “Mercedes-Benz has determined that on certain GLE/GLS (167 platform), C-Class (205 platform), E-Class (213 platform), SClass (223 platform) and GLC (253 platform) vehicles with diesel engine, the vacuum controlled coolant pump might exhibit a leakage between the vacuum system and the coolant circuit. In this case, ingress of coolant into the vacuum system may cause slight impairment to some components. Should electrical switch valves come in contact with coolant, amongst other things, the temperature of the respective parts might in isolated cases increase over time, due to an electrochemical reaction. Subsequently, a risk of thermal incident may not be fully excluded.”
