Tesla Roadster Performance and Thrust Bookings Open in India; Production Set to Begin in 2028
Tesla has officially opened the reservation window for its highly anticipated Roadster in the Indian market. Prospective buyers can now place deposits for the vehicle, though the company has clarified that these payments represent reservation fees rather than final ex-showroom prices. The financial commitment varies significantly depending on the chosen configuration, with the top-tier Thrust variant requiring a substantial deposit of Rs 2.50 crore.
For those interested in the Roadster Performance variant, the reservation process involves an initial payment of Rs 5.01 lakh, followed by an additional Rs 45.05 lakh due within 10 days, bringing the total reservation amount to Rs 50.06 lakh.
The Thrust configuration, which features specialized acceleration thrusters, demands a much higher commitment. While the initial deposit remains Rs 5.01 lakh, a further payment of Rs 2,45,24,000 is required within 10 days, totaling Rs 2,50,25,000. Tesla has noted that the Thrust variant is limited to one order per customer and its availability remains subject to local regulatory compliance.
Tesla Roadster: Production Timeline & Specifications
A critical factor for Indian consumers is the production schedule, which Tesla has confirmed will begin in 2028. At launch, the vehicle will be manufactured exclusively in a left-hand-drive configuration. As of now, the company has not provided a timeline for the production of right-hand-drive models, which are standard for the Indian market. Furthermore, while reservations are currently being accepted, Tesla has not yet announced a confirmed delivery schedule for India.
The Roadster is designed with significant influence from aerospace engineering, drawing inspiration from the SR-71 and F-35 aircraft. The Performance variant is a two-seater equipped with active aerodynamics and a multi-mode suction system engineered to increase downforce.
The Thrust variant builds upon this foundation with the addition of acceleration thrusters. Additionally, Tesla has listed a Rocket configuration, which is described as an invite-only, single-seat model featuring a full flight system, though no reservation details have been provided for this version.
