The BMW Group has started production of the updated BMW 7 Series Sedan at its Dingolfing plant in Germany, marking the first production model to feature technologies from the company's upcoming Neue Klasse platform. The move is a key milestone in BMW's transition to its next-generation vehicle architecture, with the automaker planning to introduce Neue Klasse technologies across 40 models by the end of 2027.
Key Highlights:
- BMW begins production of the updated BMW 7 Series Sedan at its Dingolfing plant in Germany.
- First production model to feature technologies from BMW's upcoming Neue Klasse platform.
- Neue Klasse innovations include BMW Panoramic iDrive, new software architecture, BMW Passenger Screen, updated Theatre Screen, and BMW Symbiotic Drive.
Neue Klasse Technologies Debut in BMW 7 Series
The refreshed BMW 7 Series receives one of the most extensive updates in the model's history. It adopts a new design language along with a revamped software and electronics architecture, the BMW Panoramic iDrive display, BMW Passenger Screen, updated Theatre Screen for rear passengers and the new BMW Symbiotic Drive system that enhances interaction between the driver and driver assistance features.
The electric BMW i7 60 xDrive also benefits from sixth-generation battery technology, offering a claimed WLTP range of up to 727 km and a 10-80% charging time of around 28 minutes.
BMW has also expanded personalisation options for the luxury sedan. Customers can choose from over 500 exterior paint colours and combinations, while nearly 700 interior material and equipment combinations are available.
Advanced Manufacturing at Dingolfing
Production of the new BMW 7 Series combines automated manufacturing with handcrafted detailing. BMW said the luxury sedan features an industry-first dual-finish paint process that blends matte and high-gloss surfaces, with each vehicle requiring over 4,500 minutes of production time.
The interiors are assembled using a mix of artificial intelligence, robotics and skilled craftsmanship, including AI-assisted leather inspection and a 3D sewing robot for cockpit upholstery.
Flexible Production and Sustainable Operations
The updated BMW 7 Series is being built alongside the BMW 5 Series and BMW iX on the same production line at the Dingolfing plant, with petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants produced together.
BMW has also invested a two-digit million-euro sum in upgrading production facilities at Dingolfing and the nearby Landshut component plant. The company added that the factory is powered entirely by renewable electricity, supported by rooftop solar installations and a biomass heating plant that supplies nearly half of its process heat requirements.
