BMW F 450 RR Revealed: Gets 48hp Engine, Sporty Design and Advanced Safety Features

BMW Motorrad has introduced the new F 450 RR as a lightweight supersport motorcycle aimed at riders looking for sporty performance and precise handling. Developed for the 48hp category, the motorcycle is designed for winding roads as well as racetrack use. It gets a new 420cc parallel-twin engine, a supersport-focused chassis and several electronic riding aids.
Key Highlights:
  • BMW F 450 RR gets a 420cc parallel-twin engine producing 48hp and 43Nm of torque.
  • The supersport bike features a six-speed gearbox, optional Easy Ride Clutch and Shift Assistant Pro.
  • It gets ABS Pro, traction control, three standard riding modes and a 6.5-inch TFT display.
  • The motorcycle will be offered in four variants, including the range-topping M Sport with Innovation Package.
The BMW F 450 RR shares its technical foundation with the F 450 GS but receives specific changes to its engine tuning, chassis setup and ergonomics. Its styling also draws inspiration from the larger BMW S 1000 RR, with a sharp front section, aerodynamic winglets and an aggressive riding stance.

BMW F 450 RR: Engine and Performance

The new BMW F 450 RR is powered by a 420cc, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine that produces 48hp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm of peak torque at 6,750rpm. The engine uses a 135-degree crankpin offset to deliver smoother performance, improved refinement and a distinctive exhaust note.
BMW has tuned the engine specifically for supersport riding. The company says 80% of the available torque is accessible from 3,000rpm, which should help deliver responsive acceleration at lower engine speeds.
The motorcycle gets a six-speed gearbox, with power sent to the rear wheel through an X-ring chain. Shift Assistant Pro, which allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts, is available as standard on all variants except the base model.
The F 450 RR also gets a stainless-steel underfloor exhaust muffler. It meets Euro 5+ emission standards and has a claimed fuel consumption figure of 3.8 litres per 100km. With a 14-litre fuel tank, BMW claims a riding range of more than 350km. The service interval is set at 10,000km.

BMW F 450 RR Gets Optional Easy Ride Clutch

The BMW F 450 RR can be equipped with an optional Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), which automatically engages the clutch based on engine speed. The system is designed to make riding easier in traffic, during low-speed manoeuvres and on winding roads.
When combined with Shift Assistant Pro, the system allows riders to accelerate and change gears without manually operating the clutch lever. The lever remains available when the rider wants direct control. The ERC keeps the clutch engaged during engine braking and opens it automatically as the engine approaches idle speed, helping prevent the motorcycle from stalling.
The feature is available as standard on the M Sport variant with the Innovation Package. Buyers of other variants can add it as an Original BMW Motorrad accessory.

BMW F 450 RR: Chassis, Suspension and Brakes

The BMW F 450 RR uses a tubular steel space-frame chassis, with the engine serving as a load-bearing component. BMW has revised the chassis setup for supersport riding, focusing on agility, stability and precise feedback.
At the front, the motorcycle gets a 43mm KYB upside-down telescopic fork. The Sport suspension setup adds adjustable rebound and compression damping. At the rear, it uses a hollow-cast aluminium swingarm paired with a KYB monoshock, which offers adjustable spring preload and rebound damping.
The bike rides on cast-aluminium wheels with tubeless tyres measuring 110/70-17 at the front and 150/60-17 at the rear. For braking, the F 450 RR gets a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc fixed caliper. The rear uses a 240mm disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper.

BMW F 450 RR: Safety Features and Riding Modes

BMW has equipped the F 450 RR with several electronic safety systems. These include ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and engine drag torque control (MSR). ABS Pro helps prevent wheel lock-up during braking while the motorcycle is leaned over in a corner. DBC is designed to reduce the risk of unintended throttle application during braking, while DTC helps manage rear-wheel traction.
The motorcycle comes with three standard riding modes: Rain, Road and Race. These allow riders to adjust the bike's behaviour according to riding conditions and preferences. The M Sport variants also get Riding Modes Pro, along with additional information displays and a lap timer.
A dynamic brake light alerts vehicles behind when the motorcycle slows down sharply.

BMW F 450 RR: Design and Features

The new BMW F 450 RR features an aggressive design inspired by the S 1000 RR. Its styling includes a nose-down, tail-up stance, aerodynamic winglets, asymmetrical side fairings and distinctive gills on the right side. The motorcycle gets an LED headlight with daytime running lights, along with LED turn indicators and a tail-light. Its front lighting signature is inspired by the larger S 1000 RR.
A 6.5-inch TFT display is offered as standard. It provides riding information and connectivity functions, including phone calls, music and navigation. The M Sport variants with Riding Modes Pro get additional Sport display layouts showing details such as lean angle, braking force and traction control activity.
A USB-C charging port is also provided in the cockpit.

BMW F 450 RR: Ergonomics and Riding Position

The BMW F 450 RR gets clip-on handlebars connected to a forged-aluminium triple clamp, creating a sporty riding position. The 14-litre fuel tank is shaped to provide support for the rider's knees during cornering and aggressive riding.
The motorcycle comes with a two-piece seat at a height of 790mm. BMW will also offer optional seat choices, including a Sport rider's seat that increases the height by 20mm and a low seat that reduces it by 15mm. The gearshift lever, footbrake lever and side stand are made of forged aluminium. The gearshift pattern can also be reversed, which may be useful for riders who prefer a racing-style setup on the track.
