BMW has expanded its Neue Klasse electric vehicle lineup with the new iX4. Positioned as the coupe-SUV sibling to the recently introduced iX3, the iX4 combines a sloping roofline with BMW’s latest sixth-generation eDrive technology. The electric SUV will be offered in two variants, both with dual-motor all-wheel drive, with production scheduled to begin early next year.
Key Highlights:
  • BMW iX4 to be offered in 50 xDrive and M60 xDrive variants
  • iX4 50 xDrive produces 463 hp and has up to 428 miles of range
  • iX4 M60 xDrive develops 611bhp and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds
  • Both versions get a 112.2 kWh usable battery and all-wheel drive

BMW iX4: Power and Performance

The entry-level BMW iX4 50 xDrive gets a dual-motor setup producing 463hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 130 mph. The more powerful iX4 M60 xDrive uses the same basic dual-motor setup but produces 603 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, while its top speed is rated at 149 mph.

BMW iX4: Battery and Range

Both variants use a 112.2 kWh usable battery pack. BMW says the iX4 50 xDrive can deliver up to 428 miles of range on a single charge. The company has not yet revealed the official range figure for the M60 xDrive. However, its higher performance output is expected to result in a lower range compared with the iX4 50. The iX4 can also tow up to 4,400 pounds when equipped with the optional trailer hitch.

BMW iX4: Design and Features

The iX4 follows BMW’s latest design direction, including the brand’s signature kidney grille and twin headlight layout. The standard M Sport Package brings 20-inch M alloy wheels, while M Sport brakes with blue calipers are available as an option. The interior is closely related to the iX3 and features BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive system. A 17.9-inch central display forms a key part of the dashboard layout.

BMW iX4 M60 Gets Sportier Equipment

The M60 xDrive gets several upgrades over the standard iX4. It features a black diffuser, black M mirror caps, M-specific badging and standard 21-inch wheels. It also gets M Sport brakes with red calipers, while BMW’s M Yellow Lights are available as an option. An M-specific rear spoiler is designed to increase downforce over the rear axle.
Inside, the M60 features an M Sport steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock marking. It also gets a 13-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, replacing the standard seven-speaker setup offered in the iX4 50.

BMW iX4 M60: Suspension and Driving Modes

The iX4 M60 comes equipped with BMW’s Adaptive M Suspension, featuring electronically controlled dampers and variable-ratio sport steering. The setup also includes specially tuned springs and dampers, along with anti-roll bar links on the front axle.
An electronically controlled M Sport differential is also fitted to improve traction. The M60 gets two exclusive driving modes, M Sport and M Sport Plus, which adjust the steering and chassis settings for a more performance-focused driving experience. BMW is expected to begin production of the iX4 early next year, with further details on pricing and market availability likely to be announced closer to its launch.
