BMW India has expanded its X1 SUV lineup with the launch of the new X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) at Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). As the name suggests, the new version gets a stretched body and longer wheelbase, with the extra space primarily aimed at improving comfort for rear-seat passengers. It sits alongside the standard-wheelbase X1 and the electric iX1 in the company's India portfolio.
Key Highlights:
BMW X1 Long Wheelbase launched at Rs 49.90 lakh, ex-showroom- Gets a 108mm longer wheelbase than the standard X1
- Powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 154bhp
- Positioned alongside the standard X1 and electric iX1 in India
BMW X1 LWB: Exterior and Dimensions
The BMW X1 LWB measures 4,616mm in length, making it 116mm longer than the standard X1. Its wheelbase has been extended by 108mm to 2,800mm. This additional length is expected to offer more legroom and a more spacious rear-seat experience.
In terms of styling, the X1 LWB retains the overall design of the standard model. However, it gets a chrome windowline, silver inserts on the door sills and rear bumper, along with 18-inch alloy wheels. The SUV continues with the same LED headlamps and tail lamps as the standard X1.
BMW offers the X1 LWB in four colour options - Mineral White, Carbon Black, Night Dusk Blue and Skyscraper Grey.
BMW X1 LWB: Interior and Features
Inside, the BMW X1 LWB gets a modern cabin with a focus on comfort and practicality. The front occupants get multi-way electrically adjustable Sport Seats, while the elevated seating position offers a clear view of the road ahead.
The rear seats also get extended cushioning by 15mm and additional bolstering for improved comfort on longer journeys. For added relaxation, the rear seats can be reclined by up to 28.5 degrees, making the X1 LWB more suitable for buyers who frequently travel with rear-seat passengers.
The X1 LWB also gets a vertically stacked wireless charger with a holder for convenient smartphone charging. For entertainment, it is equipped with a Harman Kardon sound system with 12 speakers and a 205W output. Another key highlight is the Panorama sunroof, which covers around 9 square feet and is claimed to be the largest in the segment.
BMW X1 LWB: Engine and Gearbox
The BMW X1 LWB is available with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 154bhp and 230Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Unlike the standard-wheelbase X1, the LWB version does not get the 2.0-litre diesel engine. The diesel powertrain continues to be available with the standard X1.
BMW X1 LWB: Rivals
The BMW X1 continues to compete with the likes of the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA in India. The new long-wheelbase version, however, gives buyers another option within the X1 range, particularly those looking for additional rear-seat space.
At Rs 49.90 lakh, the X1 LWB is Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the standard-wheelbase X1 and Rs 1.50 lakh more affordable than the iX1 LWB.
