Exicom Starts Liquid-Cooled EV Charger Production in India, Targets Global Markets

Exicom Tele-Systems has started manufacturing advanced liquid-cooled AC and DC power modules at its Smart Manufacturing Facility in Hyderabad. The company says it will manufacture this class of liquid-cooled power electronics for global markets. The move is part of its broader strategy to position India as a manufacturing base for advanced EV charging technologies and high-value exports.
Key Highlights:
  • Exicom has started manufacturing liquid-cooled AC and DC power modules at its Hyderabad facility.
  • The company claims to be the first in India to manufacture this class of liquid-cooled power electronics for global markets.
  • Initial production will cater mainly to EV charging markets in North America and Europe.
  • The technology is expected to improve charger reliability and support higher-power charging applications.

Why Liquid Cooling Matters for EV Chargers?

As EV chargers become more powerful and operate for longer hours, managing heat has become an important challenge. Exicom says thermal stress accounts for nearly 60% of power electronics failures, while a 10-15-degree Celsius rise in temperature can significantly increase component failure rates.
Liquid cooling helps address this issue by transferring heat more efficiently than conventional air-cooling systems. According to Exicom, the technology can keep internal temperatures around 10 degrees Celsius lower than air-cooled systems.
The liquid-cooled modules also feature a fully sealed design, helping protect the electronics from dust, moisture and salt air. This can be particularly useful for chargers operating in harsh outdoor conditions.

Initial Production to Serve Global Markets

The first phase of production will primarily support customers in North America and Europe. The modules will be used in Tritium's DC charging portfolio, including its TRI-FLEX ultra-fast DC chargers and DC-FLEX charging systems.
Exicom acquired global DC fast-charging company Tritium in 2024. The latest development further integrates Tritium's technology with Exicom's manufacturing capabilities in India.
The company plans to eventually bring the technology to Indian customers, including charge point operators, fleet companies and vehicle manufacturers. Exicom also plans to integrate liquid-cooled architecture into its flagship Harmony DC chargers over time.

Hyderabad Facility to Drive Production

The new modules will be manufactured at Exicom's recently inaugurated Hyderabad Smart Manufacturing Facility. The facility uses automation, digital traceability and specialised testing systems to support the production of advanced power electronics.
The company expects the new manufacturing capability to strengthen its EV charging portfolio while creating another avenue for high-value power electronics exports from India.
