Toyota has confirmed that a major update to its globally popular Fortuner SUV is scheduled for a debut on December 1st 2026. According to reports originating from Toyota South Africa, the manufacturer is preparing to refresh the SUV, with an expected arrival in the Indian market following in 2027. This development follows a period of anticipation, with recent spy shots captured in Thailand providing the first glimpses of the vehicle's evolving design language.

While initial speculation suggested an entirely new generation, industry sources indicate that the upcoming model will be a comprehensive update built upon the existing IMV ladder-frame architecture. By retaining the current platform and basic bodyshell, Toyota aims to preserve the SUV's established structural integrity and upright proportions while implementing significant aesthetic and technological improvements. This strategy mirrors the approach taken with the recent Hilux, where a familiar foundation was paired with a modernized exterior and a revamped cabin.

Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner: What to Expect?

The exterior of the updated Fortuner is expected to feature a more contemporary aesthetic. Spy imagery reveals a redesigned front fascia characterized by an upright grille, a taller bonnet, and slim upper lighting elements. The side profile retains the model's signature rugged stance, complemented by pronounced wheel arches and integrated side steps. At the rear, the vehicle is set to receive a redesigned tailgate, which will likely incorporate a connected LED light bar and revised tail-lamp graphics, further distinguishing it from the outgoing model.
