Tata Motors, Stellantis India Sign Deal to Develop Vehicles for Global Markets
Tata Motors and Stellantis India are expanding their partnership beyond manufacturing and supply chain cooperation, with a new agreement focused on vehicle architecture, product technology and engineering. The collaboration will use Tata Motors’ technology capabilities and Stellantis’ global engineering expertise to develop vehicles for more than 50 international markets.
Key Highlights:
- Tata Motors and Stellantis India have signed a definitive agreement to expand their product and technology partnership.
- Stellantis will use Tata Motors’ vehicle architecture and product technology to develop vehicles for global markets.
- Vehicles developed under the agreement will be manufactured in India at their joint venture facility.
- The partnership aims to strengthen India’s role in global vehicle production and exports.
The agreement has been signed by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited (TMPV), its subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEM) and Stellantis India. It builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the companies in February 2026.
What Does the New Agreement Include?
Under the agreement, Tata Motors will provide Stellantis access to its advanced product technology and vehicle architecture. Stellantis will use its product development and engineering capabilities in India to adapt the technology for different international markets. The vehicles developed through this collaboration will be manufactured in India at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors and Stellantis.
The agreement is expected to help the companies develop products that meet varying customer preferences, regulatory requirements and operating conditions across more than 50 global markets.
How Will the Partnership Benefit India?
The collaboration aims to make use of India's engineering capabilities and manufacturing scale to support vehicle development for overseas markets. By combining Tata Motors' product technology with Stellantis' global expertise, the companies intend to strengthen India's position in their international production network.
The definitive agreement also takes the partnership a step further than the February 2026 MoU, which explored potential cooperation in manufacturing, engineering and supply chains in India and overseas. The latest development establishes a more specific framework for product technology and vehicle architecture collaboration.
What Does Stellantis Bring to the Partnership?
Stellantis operates a portfolio of 14 automotive brands and has a presence across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Its global market reach, engineering capabilities and product development experience will complement Tata Motors' technology and manufacturing strengths.
