Volkswagen Tayron vs Tiguan R-Line Spec Comparison: What’s Different?

Volkswagen has expanded its SUV range in India with the introduction of the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, which is positioned above the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line in the brand’s portfolio. While both SUVs are based on similar underpinnings and share several features, they differ in dimensions, seating configuration, equipment levels and pricing. Here is a detailed comparison outlining the key specifications and features of both models.

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line measures 4,792 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width and 1,665 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,789 mm. In comparison, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is 4,539 mm long, 1,859 mm wide and 1,656 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,680 mm.

Both SUVs feature R-Line-specific styling elements, including sporty bumpers and distinctive alloy wheels. They share design elements such as a sleek front grille and Matrix LED headlamps. At the rear, both models are equipped with LED tail-lamps, although the internal lighting design differs. The Tayron R-Line features a revised rear bumper with a faux diffuser element, while the Tiguan R-Line retains a different rear bumper treatment.

Inside the cabin, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is offered in a 7-seater configuration with a third row of seats. It features leatherette upholstery along with satin silver and leatherette trim on the dashboard, and suede-like material on the lower section of the dashboard and doors. The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, on the other hand, is available as a 5-seater and comes with part-fabric seat upholstery. The overall dashboard and centre console layout remain similar between the two models.

Both the Tayron R-Line and the Tiguan R-Line are equipped with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. They support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and come with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

The Tayron R-Line additionally offers electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, massage and memory functions. It is also equipped with a powered tailgate featuring gesture control and a surround-view camera system. The Tiguan R-Line comes with a manually operated tailgate and does not include a surround-view camera. It is, however, equipped with adaptive dampers.

On the safety front, both SUVs are equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and driver-drowsiness warning. Standard safety equipment on both models includes nine airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, hill-descent control, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and a head-up display.

Both the Tayron R-Line and the Tiguan R-Line are powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine (EA888) that produces 201.2bhp and 320Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels via Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

Volkswagen states that the Tayron R-Line accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 224 kmph. The Tiguan R-Line completes the 0 to 100 kmph run in 7.1 seconds.

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is priced at Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is priced at Rs 45.73 lakh (ex-showroom).
