Kia Sorento India Launch Confirmed, to Rival Fortuner and Majestor
After months of speculations Kia India has finally confirmed the arrival of the Sorento SUV in the country after posting a teaser on its official social media handle. The post shared by Kia India features the Piazza Tasso, the main central square in the coastal town of Sorrento, Italy. The post states, "If you know which city this is, you could guess what's coming next." This confirms that the next product from Kia in the domestic market will be the Sorento SUV.
The Kia Sorento is a premium three-row SUV which is set to join the company's India lineup. While Kia is yet to announce a launch date, the teaser marks the brand's first official indication that the Sorento is headed to the Indian market.
The Sorento is expected to be positioned as Kia’s new flagship SUV in the ICE range in the Indian market. The Sorento has been on sale in international markets for several years and recently received a mid-cycle update with revised styling, new technology and hybrid powertrain options.
Kia Sorento: Expected Design
The latest-generation Kia Sorento adopts the brand's updated design language, borrowing several styling cues from the flagship EV9. The front fascia features vertically stacked LED headlamps, a redesigned tiger-nose grille and a more upright stance. At the rear, the SUV gets vertically positioned LED tail lamps, a revised bumper and new alloy wheel designs.
The globally version of the Sorento measures 4,815mm in length, 1900mm in width, 1700mm in height with a wheelbase spanning 2,815mm and a ground clearance of 176mm. However the version that will come to our market could be a little taller with higher ground clearance to tackle Indian road conditions.
Kia Sorento: Expected Cabin & Features
On the inside, Sorento gets a curved panoramic display that integrates dual 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Depending on the market, the Sorento is offered with 6-seat and 7-seat layouts.
On the features front the Sorento can get a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Bose sound system, wireless phone charger, connected car technology, ambient lighting and multiple USB-C charging ports.
Kia Sorento: Expected Powertrain Options
Internationally, the Sorento is also available with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, although it remains to be seen which versions Kia brings to India. Since Kia has not released powertrain details for the India-spec Sorento we cannot say for sure but the hybrid powertrain is most likely to make it to the Indian market. However, possibilities of petrol and diesel powertrains can also not be ruled out.
Kia Sorento: Expected Safety Features
The global-spec Sorento comes equipped with a comprehensive safety package that includes multiple airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot view monitor and Level 2 ADAS functions. These include adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance.
Kia Sorento: Expected Price & Rivals
Kia is expected to introduce the Sorento in the Rs 39 lakh to Rs 49 lakh price bracket. Following its launch the Sorento will rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Majestor and other premium SUVs in the segment.
