2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift Teased Ahead of Today’s India Launch

Mahindra is all set to launch the facelifted three-door Thar in India today, i.e. September 22nd 2026. The updated SUV is expected to get changes to its exterior design and cabin, while the existing petrol and diesel powertrains are likely to continue. The latest teasers released ahead of the launch have revealed parts of the cabin and also point towards a design influenced by the five-door Thar Roxx. Mahindra has also shared geographical coordinates linked to the launch event and the SUV's manufacturing location.

The outgoing version of the Thar is priced from Rs 10.32 lakh to Rs 18 lakh; the upcoming model is expected to be offered in an ex-showroom price range of Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh.

The three-door Thar facelift is expected to retain its existing boxy design and overall proportions. However, the front-end is likely to receive several changes. The SUV is expected to get redesigned projector LED headlamps with C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The grille will also be revised and could feature a honeycomb pattern with a body-coloured finish. The front bumper is expected to receive a revised design as well. These changes are expected to give the three-door Thar a closer visual connection with the Thar Roxx.

The latest teaser provides a glimpse of the updated cabin. The basic dashboard layout is expected to remain unchanged, while Mahindra is likely to introduce revised materials and trim elements. The updated Thar could get leatherette seat upholstery, gloss-black detailing and a steering wheel similar to the one seen on the Thar Roxx. The SUV is also expected to receive revised toggle-style switches for functions such as the hazard lights, passenger airbag and traction control.

Feature additions are expected to include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless charging and a 360-degree camera could also be offered. Other expected features include a rear wiper and washer and rear AC vents.

The mechanical package is expected to remain unchanged. The three-door Thar currently gets three engine options. The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 119 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, while the 2.2-litre diesel engine develops 132 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 152 bhp and 300 Nm of torque.

The 1.5-litre diesel is available with rear-wheel drive, while the 2.2-litre diesel is offered with four-wheel drive. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is available with both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.

A six-speed manual gearbox is offered across the range. The 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines are also available with a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
