Major automakers in India have shared their monthly car sales data for September 2026. The September period in the domestic market can be considered the pre-festive season. The festive period is a major sales driver in the country and we anticipate carmakers to rack up their best numbers in October. Here are the top 5 automakers with highest sales in September 2026.
1. Maruti Suzuki
In September 2026 Maruti Suzuki sold 1,81,838 units of passenger vehicles in the Indian market. In September 2025 Maruti Suzuki had sold 1,32,820 units marking a year-on-year growth in monthly car sales by 36.90 percent. With this sales performance the automaker retained its top position in the monthly car sales charts.
2. Tata Motors
Tata Motors recorded sales of 68,810 units in September 2026, placing it second in the monthly car sales ranking. Tata Motors had sold 59,667 units of passenger vehicles in September 2025, this marks a 15.32 percent growth in year-on-year monthly car sales for last month.
3. Mahindra
Mahindra registered sales of 64,092 units during September 2026, 4,718 units behind Tata Motors. However, Mahindra has witnessed a 14 percent year-on-year growth in monthly car sales for last month. In September 2026 Mahindra had sold 56,233 units in the domestic market.
4. Hyundai
Hyundai sold 57,166 units in September 2026, securing the fourth position in the monthly car sales list. Hyundai recorded 10.90 percent growth in its monthly car sales for September 2026, in-comparison to the last year’s sale of 51,547 units.
5. Kia
Kia continued to retain its fifth spot in the list for the second continuous month. Kia sold 32,017 units of passenger vehicles in September 2026 with a growth of 41.04 percent. Kia India’s last year’s sale for the same period stood at 22,700 units.
