Chery Exeed ET8 REEV Patented in India: What We Know So Far
Chery is preparing for its entry into the Indian passenger vehicle market through a partnership with JSW Motors, and its growing list of India patents suggests that the company is evaluating several models for the country. The latest to join the list is the Exeed ET8, a range-extender electric SUV (REEV).

The Exeed ET8 follows a boxy SUV design similar to the all-electric Exeed ET9. The SUV was showcased at the Exeed Brand Day event in China on December 22, 2025.
The ET8 is one of several models revealed by Exeed at the event. Two of them were SUVs, while the other two featured shooting-brake and estate-style body designs. The ET8 also gets rear-hinged rear doors, adding to its distinctive exterior design.
Interestingly, an Exeed ET REEV has already been spotted testing in India. However, there has been no corresponding patent surfaced for that model so far.
Exeed ET8 REEV: Battery and Range
While detailed technical specifications are still limited, the Exeed ET8 REEV is expected to use an electric motor paired with a 40kWh LFP battery pack.
The battery system will work alongside a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which is expected to act as a generator rather than directly driving the wheels. This setup allows the SUV to operate as an electric vehicle for shorter trips while using the petrol engine to generate electricity for longer journeys.
The ET8 REEV is claimed to offer around 200km of electric-only range. Its combined range, using both the battery and fuel, could exceed 1,300km.
Will the Exeed ET8 launch in India?
Chery's partnership with JSW Motors is expected to bring the Chinese automaker into India's passenger vehicle market. However, the patenting of multiple models does not necessarily mean all of them will make it to production in India.
The Exeed ET8 REEV is unlikely to arrive in India in 2026. However, the model could be considered for a later launch as Chery expands its portfolio and evaluates different electrified powertrain options for the Indian market.
