Chinese carmaker Chery could be preparing another model for the Indian market. After the Exeed Exlantix ET was spotted testing in India, the company has now added the Exeed EX7 REEV to its growing list of patents, trademarks and sightings linked to the country. The EX7 REEV uses a range-extender powertrain, combining an internal combustion engine with an electric drive system.
Key Highlights:
  • Exeed EX7 REEV gets a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and 41.16kWh battery
  • The range-extender setup uses the engine to charge the battery rather than drive the wheels
  • Dual-motor 4WD version produces a combined output of over 500bhp
  • Claimed combined range stands at up to 1,520km for the 2WD version
However, there is currently no official confirmation about an India launch.

Exeed EX7 REEV: Design and Features

The Exeed EX7 REEV has a boxy SUV design with squared headlight units, a closed-off grille and large air vents. It also gets flush-fitting door handles, roof rails and alloy wheels paired with 19- to 21-inch tyres.
The SUV features a full-LED lighting setup and a LiDAR sensor, suggesting that it has been designed with advanced driver assistance systems in mind.
Inside, the EX7 REEV gets a technology-heavy cabin. Features include a large digital driver's display, a head-up display and a massive 30-inch 6K-resolution infotainment screen that stretches towards the front passenger side. Other features include Level 2 ADAS, a 23-speaker audio system, leatherette upholstery, 50W wireless smartphone charging and 60W USB Type-C charging ports.

Exeed EX7 REEV: Powertrain and Range

The biggest highlight of the EX7 is its range-extender electric vehicle (REEV) powertrain. It uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a 41.16kWh battery. Unlike a conventional hybrid, the petrol engine does not directly drive the wheels. Instead, it acts as a generator to supply electricity to the battery, which then powers the electric motor.
The EX7 REEV is available with both two-wheel-drive (2WD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations. The dual-motor 4WD version gets a 201bhp/310Nm front motor and a 304.18bhp/332Nm rear motor. It can accelerate from 0-100kmph in a claimed 4.9 seconds.
The 2WD version has a claimed combined range of up to 1,520km. The battery also supports DC fast charging, taking it from 10 to 80 per cent in around 15 minutes.

Exeed EX7 REEV: India Launch

There is no confirmation yet on whether Chery will bring the Exeed EX7 REEV to India. The model joins the Exlantix ET, which has already been spotted testing on Indian roads, as another Exeed product linked to the market. If launched in India, the Exeed EX7 REEV could enter the premium electrified SUV space and potentially rival models such as the BYD Seal U DM-i.
