Jaguar Land Rover Recalls Over 1.2 Lakh SUVs in US Over Suspension Defect

Jaguar Land Rover North America has initiated a voluntary recall affecting 121,509 vehicles due to a flaw in the front suspension system. This includes 54,720 Range Rovers and 66,789 Range Rover Sports from 2014 to 2017. The defect could cause cracks in the upper knuckle joint, potentially leading to detachment of the upper suspension arm, posing crash risks. While JLR has received numerous reports regarding the issue, no accidents or injuries have been linked to it. Repairs will be conducted free of charge for owners.

Jaguar Land Rover Recalls Over 1.2 Lakh SUVs in US Over Suspension Defect

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) North America, has announced a voluntary safety recall for 121,509 vehicles in the United States due to a defect in the front suspension system. The recall covers 54,720 units of Range Rover and 66,789 units of Range Rover Sport that were manufactured at the Solihull Vehicle Assembly Plant between October 1, 2014 and November 10, 2017.
According to the report filled by JLR to NHTSA said, "A concern has been identified on certain 2014 and all 2015 to 2017 Model Year Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles where the front suspension upper knuckle joint could develop a crack. In extreme cases this may lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm. In cases where a crack in the front suspension knuckle has developed, certain environmental conditions may lead to a worsening of the crack and an eventual detachment of the upper suspension arm, which under extreme avoidance maneuver use conditions may compromise the vehicle’s controllability and increase the risk of a crash."
The affected components were supplied by SuperAlloy Industrial Co., Taiwan. The manufacturer estimates that 100% of these vehicles could be affected.
The recall decision follows months of analysis and discussions with Transport Canada and NHTSA. Jaguar Land Rover acknowledged receiving 96 field reports involving Range Rover models and 14 reports involving Range Rover Sport models in the U.S. since 2015. However, the company clarified that no accidents, injuries, or fires have been reported in connection with this defect.
To deal with the issue, JLR dealers will inspect both front suspension knuckles. If no cracks are detected, and parts are available, a retaining bracket will be fitted to reinforce the joint. If cracks are found, or a bracket is unavailable, the front suspension knuckle will be replaced entirely. Repairs will be carried out at no cost to owners.
