First MG SUV Based on ADAPT Platform
One of the biggest highlights of the new SUV is its platform. The Hector Hawk will become MG’s first production model based on the ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform).
The architecture has been designed to support several types of electrified powertrains, including battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, strong hybrid and range-extender hybrid systems. The same platform also underpins the Wuling Starlight 560, which is expected to share its underpinnings with the upcoming MG SUV.
The first teaser does not reveal the SUV in full, but it gives us a glimpse of its overall profile. The SUV gets an upright stance, a long wheelbase, roof rails and a large greenhouse, pointing towards a spacious family-focused design.
Based on earlier spy images, the production version is expected to feature a sealed-off front grille, an illuminated MG logo and rectangular LED headlamps with slim LED daytime running lights. It is also expected to get chunky body cladding, large alloy wheels and connected LED tail lamps.
The India-spec SUV is expected to measure around 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,755 mm in height, with a wheelbase of approximately 2,810 mm.
MG Hector Hawk: Expected Interior Updates
MG is expected to offer the Hector Hawk exclusively with a seven-seat configuration in India. The teaser suggests that the second and third rows will get bench-type seating, giving the SUV a practical cabin layout for larger families.
The dashboard is expected to feature a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other expected features include a digital driver's display, wireless charging, automatic climate control and connected car technology.
The SUV could also come equipped with a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS.
MG Hector Hawk: Expected Powertrain
The electric version is expected to use a 69.2 kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor. Based on international specifications, this setup could produce around 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque.
The EV is expected to deliver a claimed range of around 530 km on a single charge. DC fast charging is also likely to be offered, with the battery potentially charging from around 30 per cent to 80 per cent in approximately 20 minutes under ideal conditions.
However, MG is yet to confirm the final India-spec battery capacity, charging performance and certified range. These details are expected to be announced closer to the SUV’s launch.
The plug-in hybrid version of the Hector Hawk is likely to use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine combined with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The powertrain is expected to produce around 194bhp and 230Nm of torque.
More details about the MG Hector Hawk PHEV, including its official name, specifications, variants and pricing, are expected to be revealed at its August 26 debut.
