MG Motor's BaaS model allows customers to reduce the upfront cost of purchasing an electric vehicle (EV) by leasing the battery separately. This innovative approach makes EVs more accessible and affordable, encouraging wider adoption. By decoupling the battery cost from the vehicle price, customers can benefit from lower initial investments and flexible battery upgrades in the future.
MG Motor offers a diverse range of electric vehicles with varying price points. The most affordable option is the Comet EV, starting at Rs 7.49 lakh, while the premium Cyberster is priced at Rs 74.99 lakh. This range allows customers to choose based on their budget and requirements, catering to both entry-level and luxury segments in the EV market.
In 2024, South India accounted for approximately 50% of MG Motor's total electric vehicle sales, with Karnataka leading the region. This regional success highlights the growing acceptance and demand for EVs in southern states, reflecting a shift towards sustainable transportation options among consumers in that area.
The recent reduction in GST on vehicles has significantly benefited MG Motor by lowering prices for consumers, which in turn spurred sales growth. In September 2025, the company reported a 34% year-on-year increase in sales, indicating that the tax cut played a crucial role in enhancing customer affordability and boosting overall demand.
The MG Select retail chain is designed to cater to MG Motor's premium products, including the Cyberster and M9. By establishing this dedicated channel, MG aims to enhance customer experience for luxury EV buyers, providing specialized service and showcasing high-end models effectively. This strategy positions MG as a serious contender in the luxury EV market.
