Mitsubishi Pajero Teased Ahead of Global Return with Centre Dash Pod Gauges, Do You Remember This Classic Design Element?

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has revealed another teaser of the upcoming fifth-generation Pajero, confirming that the SUV will feature a new digital version of its iconic Multi Meter display. The off-road-focused interface is set to return as the Japanese automaker prepares to unveil the all-new Pajero globally later this year.
The digital Multi Meter revives a feature that was a signature element of previous Pajero generations, replacing the traditional triple-gauge layout with a modern display capable of showing real-time off-road information. It is designed to provide drivers with critical vehicle and terrain data while driving over challenging surfaces.
Key Highlights:
  • A modern, digital version of the iconic "Multi Meter" will return, providing real-time off-road data like altitude, compass heading, temperature, pitch/roll angles and torque distribution.
  • The new interface is designed for quick, at-a-glance access to critical terrain and vehicle data to boost driver confidence during off-road driving.
  • The new Pajero is expected to retain a traditional body-on-frame (ladder-frame) chassis.
  • It is anticipated to launch with a 2.4L twin-turbo diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Upcoming Mitsubishi Pajero: Digital Multi Meter

According to Mitsubishi, the new system will display information such as altitude, compass heading, ambient temperature, vehicle pitch and roll angles, and left-right torque distribution. The inclusion of torque split data allows drivers to monitor how the four-wheel-drive system responds to varying traction levels, while pitch and roll readings can help assess steep inclines and uneven terrain.
The company says the display has been developed to improve driver confidence during off-road driving by presenting key information at a glance. Mitsubishi has also released a teaser video showcasing the evolution of the Multi Meter from previous Pajero generations to its latest digital format.
Although Mitsubishi has not confirmed whether the display will be integrated into the instrument cluster or infotainment system, it is expected to offer quick access to off-road information without requiring drivers to navigate through multiple menus.

New Pajero Expected to Retain Body-on-Frame Architecture

The upcoming Pajero is expected to remain a traditional ladder-frame SUV rather than adopting a monocoque platform. Reports suggest it will be based on the Triton pickup truck's chassis and continue to offer genuine four-wheel-drive capability.
The new Pajero is expected to debut with a 2.4L twin-turbo diesel engine paired with an 8-speed AT. Mitsubishi has been gradually revealing details of the reborn Pajero ahead of its global debut scheduled for later this year. The model is expected to go on sale in international markets during 2027, with the company also reportedly planning to expand the Pajero nameplate into a broader family of SUVs in the future.
