BMW India has commenced pre-launch bookings for the X1 long-wheelbase (LWB) SUV, which is set to launch on August 21. The X1 LWB is anticipated to feature a wheelbase of approximately 2,800mm and is expected to replace the standard X1.

New BMW X1 LWB Bookings Open Ahead of India Launch on August 21

The Indian division of the German luxury automaker BMW has today kicked open pre-launch bookings for the X1 LWB SUV ahead of its scheduled launch on August 21st 2026. The new X1 long-wheelbase version will replace the existing standard-wheelbase X1 in India and will offer more cabin space, particularly for rear-seat passengers. Earlier this month BMW India teased the SUV ahead of its market launch.
The new X1 LWB will follow the introduction of the BMW iX1 LWB in India and is expected to be positioned as its petrol-powered counterpart. Unlike the iX1 LWB, the X1 LWB is expected to be locally assembled, which could help BMW price it competitively in the segment.

New BMW X1 LWB: What Will Change?

The biggest change to the X1 will be the longer wheelbase. The new SUV is expected to share its dimensions with the iX1 LWB, including a wheelbase of around 2,800 mm. This is 108 mm longer than the wheelbase of the outgoing X1.
The additional length is expected to be used primarily to increase cabin space. The second row should benefit from improved legroom, making the X1 LWB more suitable for buyers who prioritise rear-seat comfort.
Since the model is primarily a wheelbase update, major changes to the exterior design are not expected. The SUV should continue with the overall design language of the current-generation X1.

New BMW X1 LWB: Expected Powertrain & Performance

The BMW X1 LWB is expected to retain the existing 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The current X1 petrol produces 136 PS and 230 Nm. BMW is yet to confirm whether the longer-wheelbase version will receive any changes to the engine output, particularly considering the additional weight and dimensions.
For reference, the existing X1 can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 9.2 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 208 kmph. Official specifications for the India-spec X1 LWB will be announced closer to its launch.

New BMW X1 LWB: Expected Price

The existing BMW X1 petrol is priced at Rs 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom). BMW is yet to reveal the price of the X1 LWB, although the locally assembled SUV is expected to be positioned below the iX1 LWB which is priced at Rs 52.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
