New-Gen Hyundai Tucson Revealed: Gets Boxier Design, Bigger Cabin and New Tech

Hyundai has taken the wraps off the next-generation Tucson, giving its popular SUV a major design and technology makeover. The new model moves away from the sharp styling of the outgoing SUV and adopts a more upright, rugged appearance. It has also grown in size, which is expected to bring more space for passengers inside the cabin.
Key Highlights:
  • New Hyundai Tucson gets a more upright and boxier design
  • SUV is now 60mm longer and 40mm wider than before
  • Cabin features Hyundai’s new Pleos infotainment system
  • South Korea launch planned for later this year; global markets to follow in 2027
The new Tucson could also offer a preview of the technology Hyundai may introduce in future India-bound models, including the next-generation Creta.

New Hyundai Tucson: Exterior

The biggest change is the SUV’s exterior design. Hyundai has replaced the current Tucson’s angular styling with a more upright and squared-off look. The new model gets sharper edges, a boxier silhouette, larger quarter glass and more upright proportions.
The SUV measures 4.7 metres in length, making it 60mm longer than the outgoing model. Its wheelbase has grown by 30mm to 2,785mm, while the width has increased by 40mm to 1,905mm. The height has also gone up by 20mm to 1,685mm.
Hyundai has also worked on rear-seat access. The rear door opening angle has been increased by 10 degrees to 83 degrees, making it easier for passengers to get in and out. The extra height has also resulted in 29mm more headroom for rear passengers.
The new Tucson features illuminated H-shaped elements at both ends. These lighting elements are integrated into the headlamps and taillamps, giving the SUV a distinctive look.

New Tucson: Interior

The interior has been completely redesigned and introduces Hyundai’s new Pleos infotainment system. The company has not yet revealed the exact screen size, but the dashboard gets a large central display positioned above a row of physical controls.
Hyundai has also retained a conventional digital instrument display in front of the driver rather than moving completely towards a screen-heavy dashboard. Other cabin highlights include ambient lighting, perforated upholstery and wood-effect trim.
The continued use of physical controls for several functions should also make the cabin easier to operate while driving.

Could New Tucson Tech Preview Next-Gen Creta?

The new Tucson’s technology could be particularly important for Hyundai’s future products in India. Pleos is expected to become an important part of the carmaker’s next-generation infotainment and connected technology architecture.
This raises the possibility that future India-spec models could receive similar software and interface features. The next-generation Hyundai Creta could be one of the models to benefit from this technology, given its importance in the Indian market. However, Hyundai has not confirmed whether the next Creta will get the Pleos system.

Powertrain Details Yet To Be Revealed

Hyundai has not disclosed the technical specifications of the new Tucson yet. Details about its engine and powertrain options are expected to be announced closer to its market launch.
The new Tucson will go on sale in South Korea later this year, while other global markets are expected to receive the SUV in 2027.
Hyundai currently sells the Tucson in India with petrol and diesel engine options. However, it is too early to say which powertrains will be offered with the next-generation model in India.
