VinFast Electric Scooter Design Patented in India: Here's What to Expect

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has filed a design patent in India for what appears to be the Viper electric scooter. This move hints that the company is exploring opportunities in the country's fast-growing electric two-wheeler market. While a patent filing does not confirm a commercial launch, it suggests that VinFast is taking steps to protect the scooter's design as it prepares its India strategy.
The patented scooter shares several design elements with the Viper sold in Vietnam but also features noticeable styling revisions. Compared to the international model, the India-patented version gets a redesigned front fascia and the rear section also gets more angular styling.
Internationally, the VinFast Viper is powered by a 3 kW hub-mounted electric motor. Depending on the market, the scooter is offered with different battery configurations. One version uses a 1.5 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed riding range of 82 km, while an optional swappable battery extends the claimed range to around 145 km.
Another overseas specification features dual LFP battery packs with a claimed range of up to 156 km and a top speed of 70 kmph. However, VinFast has not revealed which battery or powertrain configuration, if any, could be introduced for the Indian market.

Is the VinFast Electric Scooter Launching in India Soon?

VinFast has already established its presence in India through its passenger vehicle business and has set up a manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The company has previously indicated that it is developing India-specific electric two-wheelers and the latest patent filing further strengthens speculation that scooters could be part of its future product portfolio.
Apart from the Viper, VinFast is also expected to evaluate models such as the Evo and Feliz for the Indian market. However, VinFast has not announced a launch timeline or pricing for the patented scooter in India.
