Yamaha R2 Pre-Bookings Open Ahead of August 27 India Launch

Yamaha has opened pre-bookings for the upcoming R2 sports bike in India. The Yamaha R2 is scheduled to launch in India on August 27th 2026. Customers who pre-book the motorcycle will be given priority for deliveries, subject to availability. The motorcycle can be booked through Yamaha's official website for a booking amount of Rs 10,000.

Yamaha R2: What To Expect?

The Yamaha R2 will sit between the R15 and R3 in Yamaha's sports bike range. It will be sold alongside the R15 and is expected to take on motorcycles such as the KTM RC 200 and Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and others.

Yamaha R2: Expected Powertrain

Yamaha has not yet revealed the complete specifications of the R2. However, the motorcycle is expected to use a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a displacement of more than 200cc.
The engine is expected to follow the high-revving character seen on the R15. For reference, the R15 uses a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 18.1bhp and 14.2Nm of torque.
The R2 is also expected to have a relatively low kerb weight. A lower weight could help the R2 offer a different balance between performance and handling.

Yamaha R2: Expected Features

Yamaha has not confirmed the feature list yet. The R2 is expected to get equipment suited to a performance-oriented motorcycle, with features such as riding modes, ABS and a bi-directional quickshifter among the possibilities.

Yamaha R2 Expected Price

The Yamaha R2 is expected to be positioned above the R15, which currently starts at around Rs 1.57 lakh and goes up to around Rs 1.98 lakh, ex-showroom. The R2 could be priced in an ex-showroom price range of Rs 2.30 to Rs 2.50 lakh.
