2025 Dodge Durango Range Will Continue With HEMI V8 Engine

The Durango SRT Hellcat houses a 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8 engine, which produces 710 bhp and 875 Nm of torque. The Durango R/T model will also retain its 5.7L HEMI V8 engine, which produces 360 bhp and 528 Nm of torque. Both models continue to feature the 8-speed automatic transmission. The company has announced no mechanical changes for the 2025 lineup.

To celebrate two decades of HEMI-powered Durango models, Dodge has introduced four special-edition versions for 2025: the SRT Hellcat Brass Monkey, Hammerhead, Silver Bullet and the R/T 20th Anniversary Edition. These limited-production models are now available for order at dealerships.

Dodge CEO Matt McAlear emphasized the brand's commitment to performance, stating that the combination of the Durango and the HEMI engine underscores the automaker's dedication to producing high-powered SUVs. This milestone highlights Dodge's ability to balance tradition with innovation as the brand pivots toward electrification.

The announcement comes amidst leadership changes at Stellantis, Dodge's parent company, following the resignation of former CEO Carlos Tavares. Insiders suggest that Tavares' departure played a role in the decision to extend the HEMI engine's production, which had previously been under threat of discontinuation.

Looking ahead, Dodge is expanding its portfolio to include electrified models like the all-electric Charger Daytona, expected to launch in late 2025, alongside gas-powered variants such as the Charger SIXPACK H.O. and S.O., powered by a 3.0L Twin Turbo Hurricane engine.

The continuation of the HEMI-powered Durango and the introduction of new powertrain options highlight Dodge's strategy to cater to diverse customer preferences while transitioning toward a more electrified future. The brand’s performance heritage remains central to its identity, as it evolves to meet changing market dynamics.
