New Dzire Secures Maruti's First 5-Star Safety Rating In Global NCAP's Crash Test

The upcoming new Dzire scored five stars for adult occupant protection, and four stars for child occupant protection, making it the first Maruti Suzuki car to receive a five-star safety rating by Global NCAP. The outgoing old Dzire was also crash tested and secured a two-star rating.

Ahead of its much-hyped launch, the New Maruti Suzuki Dzire achieves 5 star rating in Global NCAP Crash Test. The sedan scored five stars for adult occupant protection, and four stars for child occupant protection, making it the first Maruti Suzuki car to receive a five-star safety rating by Global NCAP.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Crash Test Score Explained

The sub-4m sedan scored 31.24 points out of maximum 34 for adult occupancy, and 39.20/49 for child occupant protection. The bodyshell integrity was rated stable and capable of withstanding further loadings. The protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was rated good. Driver’s chest showed marginal protection and passenger’s chest showed adequate protection. Driver’s and passenger’s knees showed good protection. Driver’s and passenger’s tibias showed adequate protection. Footwell area was rated as stable as per the frontal impact test.
In the side impact test, head, chest, abdomen and pelvis showed good protection, side intrusion was relevant. head, chest, abdomen and pelvis showed good protection, side intrusion was relevant. The side pole impact test revealed head, abdomen and pelvis protection was good, meanwhile chest protection was rated marginal.
The new Dzire gets safety features such as six airbags, ESC, three-point seat belts for all seats and ISOFIX child seat anchor points as standard across the range.

The new Dzire was submitted by Maruti Suzuki to Global NCAP for voluntary testing. Along with the upcoming new-gen Dzire, Maruti Suzuki also sent the current-gen Dzire for a comparison. The outgoing model scored just two stars for both adult as well as child occupant protection. "We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers," said David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation.
