Electric Cars with BaaS You Can Buy in India: From MG Windsor to Tata Tiago
Electric vehicle adoption in India is being accelerated by the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, which allows buyers to purchase vehicles separately from their batteries, significantly reducing upfront costs. This innovative approach makes EVs more affordable and accessible.
Electric Cars with BaaS You Can Buy in India: From MG Windsor to Tata Tiago
One of the biggest barriers to electric vehicle adoption in India has long been the higher upfront cost compared to petrol or diesel cars. Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) is changing that equation. Under this model, buyers purchase or finance the vehicle without the battery, paying for the battery separately through a subscription or usage-based fee (often charged per kilometre).
This can slash the on-road entry price by several lakhs, making popular EVs far more accessible while still delivering the benefits of electric driving. Today, major players including Tata Motors (across its entire EV range), MG, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra, Toyota, and others offer BaaS options on a growing list of hatchbacks, SUVs, and MPVs. In this guide, we list all the electric cars currently available with a BaaS option in India, along with their starting prices under the scheme, battery usage costs, and key details to help you decide if this ownership model suits your needs.
