Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric Vs BYD Seal Spec Comparison: What’s Different?

Mercedes-Benz is set to reintroduce the CLA nameplate in India in an all-electric form, with bookings opening on March 10 and the official launch scheduled for April 2026. The CLA Electric will join the brand’s entry-level EV portfolio alongside the EQA and EQB. Once launched, it will rival the BYD Seal, which is already on sale in the Indian market.

The CLA Electric will be offered in the 250+ variant, powered by an 85 kWh battery pack. On the WLTP cycle, it delivers a claimed range of 792 km. The electric motor produces 272 hp and enables a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds. A key technical highlight is its two-speed gearbox, unlike the single-speed transmission commonly used in most EVs. The model supports DC fast charging up to 240 kW, with Mercedes-Benz claiming that up to 400 km of range can be added in under 20 minutes using a compatible fast charger.

The BYD Seal is available in three variants: Dynamic, Premium and Performance. The Dynamic variant uses a 61.44 kWh battery paired with a 201bhp rear-mounted motor and it can accelerate from a 0 to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds. The Premium variant features a larger 82.56 kWh battery and a 308.7bhp rear motor, reducing the 0 to 100 kmph sprint time to 5.9 seconds. The Performance variant uses the same 82.56 kWh battery but adds a dual-motor setup producing 215bhp at the front and 308.7bhp at the rear, enabling all-wheel drive and a claimed 0 to 100 kmph time of 3.8 seconds.

Inside, the CLA Electric features a dual-screen layout consisting of a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 14-inch infotainment system powered by MB.OS with over-the-air update capability. The cabin includes a three-spoke steering wheel with touch controls and carbon-fiber trim elements. Comfort features include powered and heated front seats with memory function, a panoramic glass roof and automatic climate control, with dual-zone climate control available. Optional features include a 16-speaker Burmester audio system, a 14-inch passenger-side display and a head-up display.

The BYD Seal comes equipped with a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. It also offers a head-up display, dual wireless charging pads, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and an NFC card key. The front seats are heated and ventilated, with the driver’s seat offering 8-way power adjustment along with memory and lumbar support, while the co-driver seat gets 6-way power adjustment. Dual-zone climate control is standard.

The CLA Electric supports DC fast charging at up to 240 kW, with a claimed addition of up to 400 km of range in under 20 minutes. The BYD Seal also supports DC fast charging, with charging capacity depending on the variant and battery configuration.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric is scheduled for launch in April 2026. On the other hand, The BYD Seal price starts at Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom).
