Ducati Monster Dark Revealed: Gets All-Black Design, 109bhp V2 Engine
Ducati has introduced a new all-black version of its popular Monster naked motorcycle, called the Monster Dark. The new model brings back an all-black design inspired by the original Ducati Monster launched in 1993. While the motorcycle gets several visual changes, its mechanical components remain the same as the standard Monster. It also gets a lower price tag, making it a more affordable entry point into Ducati's V2-powered naked motorcycle range.
Key Highlights:
- All-black styling inspired by the original 1993 Ducati Monster.
- Powered by an 890cc V2 engine producing 109bhp and 67lb-ft of torque.
- Gets adjustable electronic rider aids and four riding modes.
- Priced at £10,995, making it cheaper than the standard Monster.
Ducati Monster Dark: Design Changes
The biggest highlight of the Ducati Monster Dark is its revised styling. The motorcycle gets an all-black finish, with black wheels and a single-fabric seat. Ducati has also kept several structural elements exposed, including the front frame, exhaust end caps and air intake snorkel.
The design takes inspiration from the first-generation Monster introduced in 1993. According to Ducati, the Dark is designed to offer a simpler and more understated appearance compared to the standard model.
Ducati Monster Dark: Engine and Performance
Mechanically, the new Monster Dark remains unchanged from the standard Monster. It is powered by an 890cc V2 engine with variable intake valve timing, producing 109bhp at 9,000rpm and 67lb-ft of torque at 7,250rpm. Ducati claims that more than 80% of the engine's peak torque is available between 4,000rpm and 10,000rpm. This should help deliver strong performance across a wide rev range.
The motorcycle will also be available in an A2-restricted version, producing 47bhp for riders who need a lower-power option.
Ducati Monster Dark: Hardware and Features
The Monster Dark uses the same aluminium monocoque frame as the standard motorcycle, with the engine forming a part of the overall structure. Its rear subframe design is also carried over from the current generation, which Ducati says helped reduce weight by 4kg compared to the previous model.
The motorcycle has a claimed weight of 175kg and gets an 815mm seat height. Suspension duties are handled by Showa, with non-adjustable 43mm front forks, while braking is taken care of by Brembo components. In terms of electronics, the Monster Dark gets cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and engine brake control. These systems are adjustable, and riders can choose between four riding modes, including an Urban mode designed for everyday commuting.
It also gets a 5-inch TFT instrument display, which is pre-wired for Ducati's Multimedia System and turn-by-turn navigation.
