2026 Mahindra Thar OG Launched in India: Check Price, Engine, Features, Safety and More

Indian automaker Mahindra has today launched the 2026 Thar facelift in the country priced at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2026 model year update of the Thar brings a series of changes to the three-door lifestyle SUV. The updated Thar now gets an ‘OG’ suffix in the nomenclature. The 2026 Thar OG is based on a new platform, revised suspension and steering hardware, additional safety features, updated styling and a new ZXT variant. The 2026 Mahindra Thar OG has retained the three engine options but powertrains are tuned for higher output. Mahindra has also introduced terrain modes and an electronic locking differential for both the front and rear axles.

One of the key changes to the 2026 Thar is the introduction of the M_GLYDE 4G platform. Mahindra says the new architecture is stiffer and stronger, with higher torsional stiffness intended to improve the SUV's performance both on the road and during off-road driving.

The platform forms the basis for the updated Thar's revised chassis and suspension setup. The SUV also gets DAVINCI suspension, along with an electric power steering system. Mahindra says these changes have been made with a focus on improving the driving experience while lowering NVH, or noise, vibration and harshness levels. Another significant addition is an electronic locking differential for both the front and rear axles, giving the Thar additional traction when driving over difficult surfaces.

The updated Thar now comes with dedicated terrain modes for different driving conditions. The system offers Sand, Snow and Mud modes, allowing the SUV's electronic systems to adjust their operation depending on the surface.

Mahindra has retained a multi-engine strategy for the Thar, giving customers a choice between petrol and diesel powertrains across the three-variant range.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Safety

Safety equipment has also received considerable attention in the facelift. The new Thar gets six airbags as standard, along with disc brakes on all four wheels. The Thar OG is equipped with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDM) and a Traction Control System. Other electronic safety and off-road assistance systems include Roll Over Mitigation, Hill Hold Control and Hill Descent Control. Mahindra has also equipped the Thar OG with Brake Disc Wiping and Electronic Brake Refill systems.

The facelift brings several visual changes to the Thar. At the front, the SUV gets a new grille, along with C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The lighting package also includes LED Ice Cube foglamps and cornering lamps, while the rear gets an updated LED tail-light setup. Mahindra has also introduced new Thar OG badging as part of the facelift. Another notable change is the SUV's wider track, complemented by new 19-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, the 2026 Thar gets Truffle Brown leatherette seats. The cabin also features a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
