2026 MG Hector Teased: Here’s What to Expect

MG Motor India has released the first teaser for the 2026 Hector, confirming that the brand is preparing an updated version of its mid-size SUV. While the teaser keeps the details under wraps but from recent sightings of the test mules we can anticipate what's in store with this upcoming SUV.

The most unusual element so far is the type of camouflage MG has used with the 2026 Hector test mules which have been spotted on multiple occasions. The test mule was covered with a green netted tarp instead of the commonly used full-body camouflage wraps. And with this setup, changes to the front and rear are visible.

From the changes noted in the test mules we can expect it to sport revised front and rear bumpers, a new grille design, updated skid plates, new alloy wheel design, 19-inch alloy wheels. The overall silhouette and signature front LED DRLs and headlamps along with tail lamps is expected to be retained.

The cabin is expected to see more substantial changes than the exterior. The 2026 Hector can get a reworked dashboard layout, redesigned seats, a new software interface for the infotainment system, ventilated seats for front and possibly rear occupants, upgraded connected-car functions and even more ADAS features.

A key expected highlight is the next-generation infotainment hardware. Multiple media reports indicate that MG is preparing a new in-car system with up to 10GB RAM, quicker touch response and multi-touch gesture controls for functions such as fan speed or audio. This builds on the large portrait touchscreen already offered in the current SUV.

The 2026 MG Hector is expected to continue with the same engines - the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 141 bhp and 250 Nm of torque and the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 167 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. Both engines are likely to retain their current transmission options and no signs of hybrid or electric variant has been hinted at yet. It will be interesting to see if MG will consider introducing the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine from the Astor for this SUV, considering the introduction of NA petrol engine in new rivals like the Tata Sierra.

MG Motor India has announced that the 2026 Hector is scheduled to launch on December 15th 2025. As far as pricing is concerned the company is likely to realign the Hector to make it more aggressively priced in its segment.

The upcoming 2026 Hector will compete in the mid-size SUV segment in India with the likes of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio, Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra Thar Roxx, Jeep Compass and the newly launched Tata Sierra.
