The Renault Kwid EV offers a claimed range of up to 250 km, which is competitive but lower than the Tata Tiago.ev, which provides a range of approximately 315 km, and the MG Comet EV, which has a range of around 230 km. This positions the Kwid EV as a viable option in the entry-level segment, though it may face challenges from competitors with longer ranges.
The Renault Kwid EV is equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including features like Lane Keep Assist and Automatic Emergency Braking. In comparison, the Kia Carens Clavis EV offers a more extensive suite of safety features, including Level 2 ADAS with smart cruise control and a 360-degree camera, enhancing its safety profile significantly.
The Renault Kwid EV is anticipated to be priced between Rs 7.99 to 9.99 lakh in India, making it an affordable entry-level electric vehicle. In contrast, the Kia EV6 is positioned in the premium segment, with a starting price of Rs 65.9 lakh. This stark difference highlights the Kwid EV's target market as budget-conscious consumers seeking electric mobility.
Given that the standard Kwid is produced at Renault's Chennai facility with high localization levels, it is expected that the Kwid EV will also be manufactured locally. This strategy not only reduces costs but also aligns with the Indian government's push for local manufacturing of electric vehicles, which could facilitate a quicker rollout.
The Renault Kwid EV features a 26.8 kWh battery, supporting DC fast charging up to 30 kW, allowing it to charge from 15 to 80 percent in about 40 minutes. On the other hand, the Kia Carens Clavis EV offers two battery options, with the larger 51.9 kWh battery providing a longer range and similar fast charging capabilities, demonstrating a more robust performance for longer trips.
