2027 Hyundai Tucson Unveiled: Gets Bigger Design, Hybrid Powertrain and New AI Technology
Hyundai has taken the wraps off the all-new Tucson , bringing a major update to one of its global SUVs. The fifth-generation model gets a completely new exterior design, a larger cabin, new hybrid technology and a long list of connected and safety features. The new Tucson has been unveiled in New York City and will go on sale in South Korea later this year. It will then reach North America, Europe and other global markets in 2027. Hyundai has not yet confirmed an India launch timeline.
Key Highlights:
- New-generation Hyundai Tucson unveiled globally with a more upright and muscular design
- Larger dimensions with a 2,785 mm wheelbase and more cabin space
- Hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains offered alongside a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine
- New technology includes Pleos Connect, Gleo AI, advanced ADAS and off-road assistance systems
2027 Hyundai Tucson: Design
The biggest change is visible on the outside. Hyundai's new 'Art of Steel' design philosophy gives the Tucson a more upright and boxy appearance. The SUV gets prominent wheel arches, sharper body lines and a more muscular stance. The long-wheelbase version measures 4,700mm in length, 1,905mm in width and 1,685mm in height, while the wheelbase stands at 2,785mm. Compared to the previous model, it is 60mm longer, 40mm wider and 20mm taller, with a 30mm increase in wheelbase.
The rear door opening angle has also increased from 73 degrees to 83 degrees, which should make getting in and out easier.
New Lighting and More Rugged XRT PRO Variant
New Lighting and More Rugged XRT PRO Variant
The new Tucson gets Hyundai's H-Edge lighting at the front, combining centre and edge lighting to give the SUV a wider appearance. At the rear, it gets new three-dimensional Prism Rear Lamps. Higher variants will also feature Micro Pixel Lighting with 25,600 individual LED pixels. Hyundai says the system can display different lighting patterns along with welcome and farewell animations.
The rugged XRT trim continues, while the new XRT PRO variant adds more off-road hardware. It gets all-wheel drive, all-terrain tyres, recovery hooks and additional body protection. Ground clearance stands at 210 mm, which is 30 mm more than the standard Tucson.
New Hyundai Tucson: Interior and Features
Inside, the Tucson gets a completely redesigned dashboard with a two-layer layout and an open storage tray. It also gets a new D-cut steering wheel and a slim 9.9-inch digital instrument display. The central touchscreen measures between 12.9-inch and 17-inch, depending on the market and variant. Hyundai has retained physical controls below the screen for functions such as climate control and audio.
The larger dimensions have also helped increase cabin space. The SUV offers up to 1,031mm of rear headroom and 1,064mm of rear legroom. Other features include dual 15W wireless charging pads, 100W USB-C charging, three-zone climate control and available massage and relaxation seats.
New Hyundai Tucson: Pleos Connect and Gleo AI
One of the major technology upgrades is Hyundai's Pleos Connect infotainment system, which is based on Android Automotive OS. It supports third-party applications, over-the-air updates and connected services. The system also gets Hyundai's Gleo AI assistant. It can understand natural-language commands and use the context of a request to respond without requiring the driver to navigate through multiple menus.
2027 Hyundai Tucson: Powertrain Options
Powertrain options will vary by market. In South Korea, the Tucson will be offered with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 193 bhp and 265 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The hybrid combines the same 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with Hyundai's next-generation hybrid system. The Korean-spec version produces around 242bhp and 380Nm, while the US-spec hybrid makes 233bhp. The hybrid uses a 1.49 kWh battery and a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Hyundai claims fuel efficiency of up to 17.4 kmpl for the Korean-market hybrid. It also gets an E-Traction system designed to improve torque delivery and reduce wheel slip during cornering.
Selected markets will also get a plug-in hybrid version. It combines the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with electric motors and a 17.1 kWh battery pack. The PHEV produces 288bhp and 380Nm and comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. Hyundai claims an electric-only range of around 81 km.
The PHEV gets a 7.2 kW onboard charger and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a claimed 7.9 seconds.
Hyundai Tucson India Launch
The new Tucson will go on sale in South Korea later this year, followed by North America, Europe and other global markets in 2027. Hyundai has not announced an India launch timeline yet. If brought to India, the new-generation Tucson could sit at the top of Hyundai's SUV range in the country.
