BMW Crosses 20 Lakh Global EV Sales Milestone
BMW has reached a significant milestone by delivering 20 lakh fully electric vehicles worldwide. This achievement coincides with strong sales from the Neue Klasse family, which contributed over 25% of total sales in early 2026.
BMW Crosses 20 Lakh Global EV Sales Milestone
German luxury automaker BMW has achieved a new EV sales milestone. Sharing this update the automaker revealed that it has successfully delivered 20 lakh units of fully electric vehicles globally, marking a major milestone in the automaker’s shift towards electric mobility. The company stated that the Neue Klasse family is now adding further momentum to its EV sales, with electrified vehicles accounting for more than a quarter of its global sales in the first half of 2026.
BMW reached the 20 lakh battery electric vehicles (BEV) sales milestone in August 2026, almost 13 years after the first-generation BMW i3 went on sale. Including plug-in hybrid vehicles, the BMW Group has now delivered around 35 lakh electrified vehicles to customers worldwide since 2013.
BMW Electric Car Sales Rise In Europe
Europe continues to be an important market for BMW’s electric vehicle expansion. Fully electric vehicles accounted for around 28 percent of the BMW Group’s total sales in Europe during the first half of 2026.
The company recorded 81,445 BEV sales in Europe during the second quarter, marking a 38 percent rise. BMW attributed the sharp growth partly to improving availability of the new iX3.
The BMW iX3 has quickly become an important part of the company’s European EV portfolio. Since its world premiere, one in every three fully electric BMW vehicles ordered in Europe has been an iX3. The model has performed particularly strongly within the X3 family, where one out of every two vehicles ordered is now the fully electric version.
BMW is also approaching 100,000 new iX3 orders in Europe, underlining the importance of the model as the company expands its Neue Klasse-based electric vehicle range.
The Landmark Unit: i5 M60 xDrive
The BMW Group achieved the milestone of 20 lakh fully electric vehicle sales with the delivery of the i5 M60 xDrive manufactured at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing to a customer in Spain. The milestone comes as BMW continues to expand production of its latest generation of electric vehicles. The company has already started series production of the new BMW i3 at its Munich plant in August 2026. BMW says demand for the new i3 has been strong since orders opened ahead of its market launch, resulting in a steep production ramp-up at the Munich facility.
BMW’s EV Strategy: Neue Klasse to Play a Key Role
The new BMW i3 is the second model from the company’s Neue Klasse family. BMW expects the new generation of models to provide further momentum to its electrification strategy as it expands its range of fully electric vehicles. The company currently combines battery-electric vehicles with plug-in hybrids in its portfolio, allowing it to cater to different customer requirements across global markets.
