Hero MotoCorp to Launch First Electric Motorcycle in 2027 Under Vida: What to Expect?

Hero MotoCorp is preparing to make a major move into the electric motorcycle segment. The Indian two-wheeler manufacturer has confirmed that its first electric motorcycle will arrive in 2027, expanding its EV portfolio beyond the Vida electric scooter range.
Key Highlights:
  • Hero MotoCorp will launch its first electric motorcycle in India in 2027.
  • The company is developing two dedicated EV platforms, UBEX and VXZ.
  • UBEX will underpin a street-naked electric motorcycle, while VXZ is being developed with Zero Motorcycles.
  • Hero plans to increase Vida EV production capacity to 45,000 units per month in FY27.
The company is currently developing two dedicated electric motorcycle platforms, named UBEX and VXZ. Both platforms were showcased as concepts at EICMA 2025 and have been developed specifically for electric motorcycles rather than being adapted from the existing Vida scooter platform.
The UBEX platform will form the basis of a street-naked electric motorcycle. The VXZ platform, meanwhile, is being developed in partnership with American electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero Motorcycles.
The VXZ-based model is expected to have a stronger performance focus and an adventure-oriented design. Hero says both platforms have been developed from the ground up for motorcycles, although the company has carried forward some of its experience from the Vida electric scooter range.

Focus on Performance and Range

Hero MotoCorp says its new electric motorcycles will focus on performance, rideability, gradeability and range. This indicates that the upcoming models are being developed to offer more than just an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional petrol motorcycles.
Kausalya Nandakumar, Chief Business Officer of Hero MotoCorp's Emerging Mobility Business Unit, has confirmed that the company's electric motorcycles will arrive from next year. CEO Harshavardhan Chitale has also indicated that more details about the upcoming models will be revealed in the coming months.

Hero to Expand Vida EV Production

The upcoming electric motorcycle range will arrive alongside Hero MotoCorp's plans to expand its existing electric scooter business. The company currently sells its EVs under the Vida brand and is looking to significantly increase production capacity.
Hero plans to raise its monthly Vida production capacity to 45,000 units in FY27. This will be a major increase from the 15,000-unit monthly capacity reported at the end of FY26.

Hero's EV Line-up To Expand

With the UBEX and VXZ platforms, Hero MotoCorp is preparing to build a broader electric two-wheeler portfolio. The company could eventually have products ranging from practical electric scooters to performance-oriented electric motorcycles.
The first of these electric motorcycles is expected to arrive in 2027. More information on their specifications, battery capacity, performance and pricing is likely to be announced closer to their launch.
