Engine and Performance

The 990 RC R Track continues to use the 947 cc LC8c parallel-twin engine. However, output has been increased to 133bhp at 10,000 rpm and 105Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. This marks a marginal increase over the standard version, which produces 128bhp and 103Nm of torque.
The gearbox has been revised for circuit conditions, with a longer first gear and a shorter sixth gear. KTM has also equipped the motorcycle with an Akrapovič Evolution Line stainless steel exhaust system that weighs 3 kg. The updated gearing and lighter exhaust contribute to the overall performance changes compared to the standard model.

Weight and Chassis

KTM states that the 990 RC R Track has a weight of approximately 181 kg. The reduction comes from removing road-oriented components such as the headlights, mirrors, side stand and ABS modulator.
The motorcycle retains the chromium-molybdenum steel trellis frame and aluminium subframe from the standard 990 RC R. It features aerodynamic winglets inspired by KTM’s MotoGP program, along with injected plastic fairings that are easier to replace or customise. A taller windscreen has also been added to support a full tuck riding position. The fuel tank capacity is 15.7 litres, and seat height stands at 857 mm.

Electronics and Rider Aids

The electronics system has been simplified and is approximately 2 kg lighter than that of the road-going version. A 4.2-inch full-colour TFT display provides lap timing and essential riding data.
The motorcycle offers three configurable Track Modes. Riders can adjust throttle response, traction control, slip control, anti-wheelie, launch control and engine brake settings. Additional features include a pit limiter and Quickshifter+ system, allowing clutchless gear changes during track sessions.

Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

The 990 RC R Track is equipped with fully adjustable WP APEX suspension at both ends. The suspension settings have been developed through testing on European race circuits.
Braking duties are handled by 320 mm Brembo HyPure front discs with four-piston calipers, paired with a 240 mm rear disc. The motorcycle runs on Michelin Power Slick tyres, sized 120/70 R17 at the front and 190/55 R17 at the rear, intended strictly for track use.

Racing Support

KTM revealed the motorcycle alongside the 990 RC R Cup, a six-round European racing series aimed at amateur riders. The company has indicated that dealers will provide spare parts support for participants.
As the 990 RC R Track is not road legal, it would be limited to circuit use in markets such as India, and potential buyers would need to comply with local import and usage regulations.
