Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX Showcased in India
Mercedes-AMG has showcased the Concept AMG GT XX in India, giving a first look at the electric performance car that previews the brand’s upcoming generation of AMG models. The concept made its global debut last year and is based on the dedicated AMG.EA electric vehicle architecture. It uses three electric motors, axial-flux motor technology and a high-voltage battery designed to support high-performance driving and rapid charging. The Concept AMG GT XX is not a production model yet.
Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX: Design
The AMG GT XX concept has been designed as a four-door performance electric car with a low-slung profile. It gets a long bonnet, a steeply raked windscreen and a fastback-style rear section. The overall proportions are different from the existing AMG GT four-door, reflecting the use of the dedicated AMG.EA platform.
At the front, the concept features an AMG-specific interpretation of the grille with vertical elements, while the headlights are positioned vertically on either side. The bonnet gets prominent contours and air outlets.
The rear features six circular lighting elements arranged in pairs, along with an illuminated panel positioned between the tail lamps. The concept also gets several aerodynamic elements, including active aero components.
Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX: Cabin
On the inside, the Concept GT XX gets a digital cockpit with a driver-focused layout. The dashboard features digital displays, while the steering wheel has a flat-bottomed design derived from AMG’s performance-focused models.
The cabin uses a combination of lightweight materials and recycled materials. The centre console and other structural elements have been designed to expose parts of the car’s electrical architecture. The concept also uses Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS operating system. The digital interface incorporates information related to the vehicle’s electric powertrain and other vehicle functions.
Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX: Powertrain
The Concept GT XX is powered by three electric motors. Two motors are positioned on the rear axle, while the third motor drives the front axle. The combined system produces more than 1,000 kW, which translates to over 1,341bhp. It has a claimed top speed of over 360 kmph.
Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX: Battery Pack & Charging
The Concept GT XX uses a high-performance battery developed for the AMG.EA platform. Mercedes-AMG has used direct cell cooling to manage battery temperatures during high-load operation. The battery system operates at a high voltage and supports charging at significantly higher power levels than conventional electric vehicles.
Mercedes-AMG claims an average charging power of more than 850 kW. It says the concept can recover around 400 km of WLTP range in approximately five minutes, subject to the availability of compatible charging infrastructure.
Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX: Testing
The Concept GT XX has undergone extensive testing as part of the development of AMG.EA technology. Mercedes-AMG previously conducted an endurance run at the Nardo test facility in Italy, where the prototype covered more than 40,000 km in seven days. The company also reported multiple performance records during the test.
