Six-cylinder petrol replaces earlier four-cylinder options

The latest AMG GLC 53 becomes the only petrol version of the second-generation GLC to use a six-cylinder engine. Earlier, the range relied on four-cylinder petrol units, while some European markets also continue to receive a six-cylinder diesel.
The new model uses an updated version of the 3.0L inline-six turbo-petrol engine seen in the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe sold in India. Mercedes-AMG has indicated that the GLC badge will continue with this engine until 2027, after which an electric version is expected to join the line-up.
The 3.0L turbocharged engine puts out 437bhp and 600Nm of torque. An overboost function can raise torque to 640Nm for short durations. A 48V mild-hybrid system contributes an additional 22.6bhp and 205Nm of torque.
Power is delivered through a nine-speed automatic gearbox to a fully variable all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes-AMG claims that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.2 seconds. Top speed is rated at 250 kmph and can be lifted to 270 kmph with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
The engine receives hardware changes such as a revised cylinder head, updates to the intake and exhaust routing, a different intake camshaft, a larger intake system and a new intercooler.

Chassis and drivetrain updates

For the first time on an AMG SUV, the GLC 53 can be fitted with an electronically controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential that includes a drift function. This is available through the AMG Dynamic Plus Package.
Other equipment includes rear-axle steering, adaptive suspension and selectable drive programs covering Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. A revised exhaust system with additional resonators is also part of the package.

Exterior and Golden Accents option

Design changes follow the current AMG treatment with vertical-slat grille elements, projector LED headlamps and wraparound tail-lights. The GLC 53 rides on 21-inch forged alloy wheels as standard.
Mercedes-AMG will make a Golden Accents package available for one year. It combines specific exterior finishes, gold-coloured detailing on the wheels and AMG graphics on the doors.
