Porsche Exits Bugatti Rimac, Sells Stakes: What Changes Now?
Porsche has finalised the sale of its stakes in Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Group, concluding its involvement with both companies. The transaction is projected to yield approximately €1 billion for Porsche.
Porsche Exits Bugatti Rimac After €1 Billion Stake Sale
Porsche has officially ended its involvement in Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Group after completing the sale of its stakes in both companies. The German luxury carmaker is expected to receive around €1 billion (approximately $1.2 billion) from the transaction, marking a major change in the ownership structure of the Croatian automotive group.
Key Highlights:
- Porsche has sold its stakes in Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Group
- The transaction is expected to generate around €1 billion for Porsche
- Mate Rimac will become President of Bugatti Automobiles
- Christophe Piochon will step down from his Bugatti leadership roles
In April 2026, Porsche announced that a consortium led by HOF Capital had agreed to acquire its holdings in both companies. BlueFive Capital is the consortium's largest investor, along with other institutional investors from the US and Europe. With the transaction now completed, Porsche no longer holds a stake in either Bugatti Rimac or Rimac Group.
Mate Rimac to Take Bigger Role at Bugatti
The ownership change also brings changes to Bugatti's leadership. Mate Rimac, who has served as CEO of Bugatti Rimac since 2021, will become President of Bugatti Automobiles. Christophe Piochon will leave his roles as President of Bugatti Automobiles and Chief Operating Officer of Bugatti Rimac. Piochon has spent more than 20 years with Bugatti and played a role in the development of models including the Veyron and Tourbillon.
Bugatti will continue to operate from its historic base in Molsheim, France. The company is now set to enter its next phase under the new ownership structure, with Mate Rimac continuing to guide its long-term strategic and operational direction.
