Renault is testing a new version of the Triber that could combine a turbo-petrol engine with factory-fitted CNG technology. A test mule of the upcoming Renault Triber Turbo CNG has been spotted in India, giving us an early look at what could be one of the more interesting additions to the compact MPV’s line-up
The Triber has always played the practicality card. Its compact dimensions, three-row seating and relatively accessible price have been central to its appeal. Renault now appears to be working on giving the MPV a more versatile powertrain package.
The test car carries Turbo badging and a CNG sticker, pointing towards the combination of a turbocharged petrol engine and CNG. Renault is expected to introduce the new powertrain in India later this year.
Renault Triber Turbo CNG Spotted: What Is New?
At first glance, there isn’t much to distinguish the test mule from the standard Triber. The exterior design appears largely unchanged, which means the update is likely to be more about what sits underneath the body.
The two key clues are the Turbo badge at the rear and the CNG marking. These suggest that Renault is testing a factory-developed CNG system alongside the turbocharged petrol engine.
For an MPV, this combination makes plenty of sense on paper. The turbo engine could bring more punch when the Triber is carrying a full load, while CNG could help keep running costs in check.
Renault Triber Turbo CNG: Expected Powertrain
The current Triber uses a 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 72PS and 96Nm of torque.
The upcoming turbo version is expected to use a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine related to the unit used by the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. In those applications, the engine produces around 100 PS and 160 Nm. The exact output for the Triber, however, is yet to be confirmed.
The turbo engine is only half the story. Renault is also expected to offer a factory-fitted CNG system with the Triber. The company is understood to be working on a dual-cylinder arrangement that can be positioned beneath the vehicle. The idea is simple - keep the CNG hardware out of the luggage area and retain as much of the Triber’s practicality as possible.
That will be important because boot space is already a compromise in most three-row vehicles when all seats are being used. Renault has not yet revealed the final CNG tank capacity or the certified fuel-efficiency figure.
Will The Turbo CNG Triber Get an Automatic?
The turbo-petrol Triber is expected to be offered with a manual gearbox, while an automatic transmission could also be part of Renault’s plans. However, it is too early to say whether the Turbo CNG version will get an automatic option. Renault is yet to reveal the complete variant and transmission strategy.
Renault Triber Turbo CNG: Cabin & Features
Don’t expect the Turbo CNG version to look radically different inside. The Triber’s existing cabin is expected to be carried over, including its flexible three-row seating arrangement. Renault could make trim-specific changes or add equipment to differentiate the new variants, but details remain under wraps for now. The focus is likely to remain on practicality rather than turning the Triber into a completely new product.
Renault Triber Turbo CNG: India Launch & Price
The Renault Triber Turbo CNG is expected to launch in India around September-October 2026. The latest sighting indicates that Renault is already conducting road testing of the new powertrain. For now, Renault is keeping the details under wraps. But with test mules already appearing on Indian roads, more information about the Triber Turbo CNG is likely to emerge soon......
