Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 to Launch in India on September 4: Expected Engine, Features, Price and More
Royal Enfield will launch the new Himalayan 440 in India on September 4, 2026. The motorcycle will make its debut at the Royal Enfield Himalayan Basecamp in Ladakh. The launch date also marks 10 years of the Himalayan nameplate, which was first introduced in India with the Himalayan 411 in 2016.
The Himalayan 440 will sit below the Himalayan 450 in Royal Enfield’s line-up. It is expected to use the same 443cc engine as the Scram 440, while getting a different suspension and wheel setup aimed at improving its touring and off-road capability.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Launch Date
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 will be launched in India on September 4, 2026, at the Himalayan Basecamp in Ladakh. The launch will coincide with 10 years of the Himalayan nameplate.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Expected Powertrain
The Himalayan 440 is expected to be powered by Royal Enfield’s 443cc, single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled LS440 engine. In the Scram 440, this engine produces 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm and comes with a six-speed gearbox.
For the Himalayan 440, the engine is expected to retain its focus on low- and mid-range torque. This should suit the motorcycle’s intended use, particularly when riding on trails, broken roads or during long-distance touring. The LS440 also gets a six-speed gearbox and is expected to offer better refinement than the older LS411 engine used by the Himalayan 411.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Expected Suspension Setup & Wheels
One of the key differences between the Himalayan 440 and Scram 440 is expected to be the wheel and suspension setup. The Himalayan 440 is likely to get a 21-inch spoked wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear. The larger front wheel should help the motorcycle handle uneven surfaces, potholes and off-road sections more effectively.
Suspension duties are expected to be handled by a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Suspension travel could stand at around 200 mm at the front and 180 mm at the rear, giving it more off-road capability than the Scram 440.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Design & Features
The Himalayan 440 is expected to take design cues from the Himalayan 411 rather than the more modern Himalayan 450. The focus is likely to remain on functionality, with a tall riding position, spoke wheels and a design suited to touring and off-road use.
The instrument console is also expected to be updated compared with the Himalayan 411. A more modern display with Royal Enfield’s Tripper turn-by-turn navigation system could be offered. The motorcycle is expected to feature disc brakes at both ends and dual-channel ABS. However, details about features such as riding modes and traction control have not been confirmed yet.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440:: What Will Be Different From The Himalayan 450?
The Himalayan 440 will be positioned as a more accessible alternative to the Himalayan 450. While the Himalayan 450 uses Royal Enfield’s 452cc Sherpa engine and offers a higher level of equipment, the Himalayan 440 is expected to focus on a simpler mechanical package and a lower price. The new motorcycle is therefore likely to appeal to riders looking for an adventure motorcycle for touring and occasional off-road use without moving into the Himalayan 450’s price bracket.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Expected Price
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is expected to be priced at around Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom). This would place it above the Scram 440 and below the Himalayan 450 in the company’s range.
