Suzuki Recalls Over 1,500 Motorcycles in US Due to Headlamp Issue
Suzuki Motor USA is recalling 1,543 motorcycles due to a defect in the headlamp assembly that may impair visibility, increasing crash risks. The recall affects specific models produced between November 2019 and December 2024, including the 2024 GSX-S1000S and 2020 DL1050. An issue with the headlamp's photometric intensity was identified, stemming from a protective tape applied during manufacturing. Suzuki will replace the defective assemblies with compliant ones and has advised owners to refrain from using the affected motorcycles until repairs are completed.
Suzuki Recalls Over 1,500 Motorcycles in US Due to Headlamp Issue
Suzuki Motor USA has announced a voluntary recall of 1,543 motorcycles due to a defect in the headlamp assembly. The recall covers 23 units of the 2024 GSX-S1000S, 127 units of the 2020 GSX-S1000S and 1,393 units of the 2020–2025 DL1050 that were produced between November 2019 and December 2024.
According to the report filed by Suzuki to NHTSA, The headlamp upper beam of affected headlamp assemblies exceeds the maximum allowable photometric intensity (cd) limit at test point 4D-V. The increased photometric intensity (cd) of the headlamp beam may impair the vision of the motorcycle operator or other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
"Protective tape applied from November 20, 2019 to the upper beam reflector base to prevent surfaceto-surface wear caused the reflector to elevate approximately 0.5 degrees. This caused the light distribution to shift and as a result the luminous intensity was slightly increased at the test point, exceeding the maximum allowable cd limit," report added.
Koito Manufacturing Co., based in Japan, supplied the headlamp assemblies involved in the recall. The company informed Suzuki Motor Corporation of the issue in July 2025, prompting further testing and verification. Suzuki determined at the end of that month that the assemblies exceeded the allowed standards and decided to conduct a recall.
To deal with issue, Suzuki authorised dealers will replace the defective headlamp assemblies with compliant parts. Suzuki has advised the owners not to use the affected motorcycles until the repair is carried out.
