Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast, which started selling its electric cars in India in September 2025, is preparing to enter the country’s electric two-wheeler segment in 2026.
VinFast’s global two-wheeler portfolio includes models with claimed ranges between 70 km and 250 km. For India, the likely focus will be on scooters delivering between 100 km and 160 km per charge. Among the models being assessed is the Theon S, which offers a claimed range of about 150 km, dual-channel ABS, 16-inch wheels and LED lighting. If introduced in India, it is expected to be priced around Rs 1.50 lakh.

Market Study and Dealer Interest

VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau said the company is conducting a feasibility study to understand usage patterns, pricing expectations and product requirements in India. With nearly 26 dealerships already operating for its electric cars, several partners have shown interest in retailing VinFast’s upcoming two-wheelers as well, according to the company.

Upcoming MPV and Electric Bus Plans

VinFast also plans to introduce its Limo Green electric MPV in February 2026. Already available in Vietnam, the MPV features a simple cabin layout with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, single-zone climate control with vents for all rows and a front-wheel-drive setup with Eco, Comfort and Sport modes.
The company is also working on its electric bus strategy for India. Discussions are underway with State Transport Undertakings in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for potential orders. The buses are likely to be introduced initially as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits or Completely Built Units (CBU).

Investment and Manufacturing

VinFast has announced a $2 billion investment plan for India, of which $500 million has already been used to set up a production facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The plant currently has an annual capacity of 50,000 electric cars and can be expanded to 150,000 units. The company has not yet shared specific manufacturing plans for its upcoming two-wheelers and buses, though it indicated that two-wheelers could be produced locally from launch.
