Volvo EX90, ES90 India Launch Confirmed For October 12: What to Expect?

Volvo is set to expand its electric car portfolio in India with two new flagship models. The Swedish carmaker has confirmed that the EX90 electric SUV and ES90 electric sedan will launch in India on October 12. Both models will sit above the existing EX30 and EC40 in Volvo’s EV line-up and will bring the brand’s latest electric technology, safety features and premium equipment to the Indian market.
Key Highlights:
  • Volvo EX90 and ES90 to launch in India on October 12
  • EX90 will be positioned as the electric successor to the XC90
  • ES90 will replace the S90 with an all-electric luxury fastback design
  • Both models are based on Volvo’s SPA2 electric architecture

Volvo EX90: Electric SUV Flagship

The Volvo EX90 will be the brand’s largest and most advanced electric SUV in India. It is positioned as the electric counterpart to the XC90 and comes with three-row seating for up to seven passengers.
The SUV is based on Volvo’s dedicated SPA2 electric platform. The India-spec model is expected to be based on the updated 2026 version, which gets an 800-volt electrical architecture, replacing the earlier 400-volt system.
Volvo claims that the upgraded system can add up to 250km of range in around 10 minutes using a compatible high-speed DC charger. Globally, the EX90 is available with single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrains. Depending on the configuration, it can offer a WLTP range of around 600km.

Volvo EX90: Safety and Technology

Safety remains one of the key highlights of the EX90. The SUV uses cameras, radars, ultrasonic sensors and driver-monitoring technology to keep track of the vehicle’s surroundings and the driver.
Some international versions also get a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, which helps detect objects and road users at greater distances.
Inside, the EX90 follows Volvo’s minimalist cabin design. It is expected to feature a vertically mounted central touchscreen, Google built-in services, over-the-air updates, a digital instrument display, premium audio, a panoramic glass roof and three-row seating.
The updated 2026 model also gets an electrochromic panoramic roof, allowing occupants to electronically adjust the transparency of the glass.

Volvo ES90

The second launch will be the Volvo ES90, an all-electric luxury model positioned above the outgoing S90. However, unlike a conventional sedan, the ES90 combines elements of an executive saloon, fastback and crossover.
It gets a large hatchback-style tailgate instead of a traditional boot lid, making it easier to access the luggage area. Its raised stance, long wheelbase and sloping roofline also give it a more distinctive appearance.
The ES90 shares the SPA2 architecture with the EX90 and is Volvo’s first production model to introduce the company’s 800-volt electrical system.

Volvo ES90: Electric Range

Volvo claims that the ES90 can deliver up to 700km of WLTP range, depending on the powertrain and configuration. With a 350kW DC fast charger, the electric luxury car can reportedly add up to 300km of range in around 10 minutes.
A 10-80 percent charging session can take approximately 22 minutes under suitable conditions.
The entry-level single-motor version can accelerate from 0-100kmph in around 6.6 seconds, while the dual-motor versions offer stronger performance.

India-Spec Details Expected Closer to Launch

Volvo is yet to reveal the exact specifications and variants for the Indian market. The company could initially offer the EX90 and ES90 in a limited number of fully equipped configurations.
With both models positioned at the top of Volvo’s electric range, they are expected to bring the brand’s latest EV technology and premium features to India when they arrive on October 12.
