Ford Motor Company announced plans to start assembling F-Series Super Duty pickups at the Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario, Canada, by 2026. This move aims to increase production of up to 100,000 units of one of Ford’s most popular and profitable vehicles.
Currently, the Super Duty is produced at the Kentucky Truck Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant, both operating at full capacity. The addition of Oakville will make it the third production site for Super Duty trucks in North America. The expansion will also facilitate the introduction of multi-energy technology to the next generation of Super Duty trucks, aligning with Ford’s electrification goals.
Ford plans to invest around $3 bn to expand Super Duty production, including $2.3 bn for assembly and integrated stamping operations at Oakville. Upon completion, the Oakville Assembly Complex will be a fully flexible plant. The expansion will initially secure approximately 1,800 jobs at Oakville, 400 more than originally planned for producing a three-row electric vehicle. Unifor-represented employees at Oakville will return to work in 2026, a year earlier than anticipated.
The increased production will also create about 150 jobs at the Windsor Engine Complex, where more V8 engines for the Super Duty will be manufactured. Additional investments and new jobs are planned for U.S. component plants that support Super Duty production:
- Sharonville Transmission Plant in Ohio: $24 mn investment and additional overtime.
- Rawsonville Components Plant in Michigan: $1 mn investment and around 20 new jobs.
- Sterling Axle Plant in Michigan: Approximately 50 new jobs.
Kumar Galhotra, Ford Chief Operating Officer, said,“This investment will benefit Ford, our employees in Canada and the U.S., and especially our customers who want and need Super Duty for their lives and livelihoods. It is fully consistent with our Ford+ plan for profitable growth, as we take steps to maximize our global manufacturing footprint, and our investments will have a fast payback.”
