Lexus Reveals All-New ES With Hybrid And EV Options At Shanghai Auto Show
Lexus has introduced the next-generation ES sedan at the 2024 Shanghai Auto Show, offering hybrid and battery-electric variants as part of its broader push toward electrification.

Lexus presented the eighth-generation ES sedan at the 2024 Shanghai Motor Show (April 23–May 2), showing a mix of hybrid (HEV) and battery electric (BEV) powertrains. The new model is part of a multi-step plan to update the brand’s electrified vehicle offerings by 2026.
Lexus Electrification Strategy
The new ES includes both HEV and BEV options, marking the second of three battery electric models Lexus plans to introduce by March 2026. This launch is aligned with the company’s carbon neutrality roadmap and is meant to address changing vehicle demand across markets.

Next-Gen Lexus ES : Powertrain and Performance Options
The updated lineup includes the ES300h and ES350h in HEV form, as well as ES350e and ES500e in BEV form. HEV models are powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0L and 2.5L 4-cylinder engines paired with electronic continuously variable transmissions. The BEV versions feature eAxle systems, delivering outputs of up to 264.3 bhp and offering an estimated range of 685 km.
Next-Gen Lexus ES: Specifications
- The BEV ES500e accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
- The HEV ES300h achieves this in 9.4 seconds.
- BEV fast-charging to 80% takes 30–60 minutes, depending on ambient temperature.

On the inside, Lexus ES gets “Responsive Hidden Switches” and “Sensory Concierge,” which coordinate interior lighting, climate and scent settings.
Next-Gen Lexus ES: Dimensions and Vehicle Platform
All variants of the next-gen ES share a wheelbase of 2,950 mm, a length of 5,140 mm and a width at 1,920 mm. Heights vary slightly, with the BEV versions reaching up to 1,560 mm.

The new ES models are equipped with the latest Lexus Safety System+, offering updated driver assistance features and connectivity systems.
Next-Gen Lexus ES: Market Rollout
Lexus has planned A phased rollout across various regions is scheduled to begin in the middle of 2026. New ES is the second of three new LEXUS BEV models scheduled to debut by March 2026. The launch also forms part of a wider redesign of the Lexus brand, set to be detailed at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025.
