Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet AMG Line Launched In India To Rival The BMW Z4

The Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet was first introduced back in July 2023 in the international market and today it has made its way to the Indian market. This also reaffirms the company’s philosophy of ‘India First’, under which the company has been bringing most of its latest products to the Indian shores. Underpinning the CLE Cabriolet is the company’s Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform.

The design of the CLE Cabriolet includes features such as a front grille with a shark-nose effect, an extended bonnet, and a multi-layered fabric roof that retracts into the boot in just 20 seconds till speeds up to 60 kmph.

On the Inside, it gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display with the company’s signature MBUX system. The CLE gets a 2+2 seating layout.

The CLE Cabriolet is offered in a single CLE 300 trim in India. It is powered by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0 L, 4-cyl petrol engine that churns out 258 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. This engine works in tandem with a 48V mild-hybrid system which offers additional 23 bhp and 205 Nm of torque for short periods. It has a top speed of 250 kmph and accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds.

In terms of competition, the CLE Cabriolet will face the BMW Z4 M40i in the Indian market which has a lower ex-showroom price tag of Rs 90.90 lakh. The Z4 has also been present in the market for quite a while and is already a well established product in the market. The pricing and features of the CLE do suggest that Mercedes-Benz is targeting a specific segment of luxury car buyers in India who are looking for a convertible option.
