Porsche Recalls 2023 911 Over Seat Belt Buckle Safety Risk
Porsche Cars North America has announced a voluntary recall affecting 279 units of the 2023 Porsche 911 that were manufactured between February 17, 2023, and September 13, 2023. Porsche's investigation revealed that incorrect placement of aluminum butyl mats during assembly could lead to a loss of preload force in the bolt connection over time.
According to the report filled by Porsche to NHTSA said, Possible settling behavior and loss of preload force of the bolt connection due to temperature and vibration loads over running time can lead to loosening of the nut from the threaded bolt. This can lead to possible separation of the bolt connection in the event of a crash and therefore can increase injuries of rear seat passengers.
The issue was first identified in August 2023, when Porsche was informed by one of the production plant that one bolt connection of the seat belt buckle was incorrectly made partially on an aluminum butyl mat. This was regarded as an isolated case. While no customer complaints or real-world incidents had been reported, Porsche conducted extensive testing, confirming deviations from internal torque specifications.
Do deal with the issue, Porsche will check the rear seat belt buckle and the bolt connection and rework the aluminum butyl mat and re-torque the bolts as necessary. The rear seat belt buckle and bolt connection has not changed technically. The screw connection has to be re-fitted if incorrect assembly is detected during the inspection and remedy program.
