Porsche Sets New Lap Records At Road Atlanta With Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid And Cayenne Turbo GT
Porsche has achieved new lap records for its production sedans and SUVs at Road Atlanta, with the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid clocking 1:30.98 minutes and the Cayenne Turbo GT achieving 1:34.32 minutes. The Panamera features a twin-turbo V8 and electric motor, delivering 771 bhp, while the Cayenne is powered by a twin-turbo V8 producing 650 bhp. Both vehicles utilized specialized tires and advanced suspension systems. Despite their records, they remain slower than the Taycan Turbo GT, which holds the overall electric vehicle record.

German luxury sports car and SUV manufacturer Porsche has announced that it has set new lap records for production sedans and SUVs at Road Atlanta. The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid recorded a lap time of 1:30.98 minutes, while the Cayenne Turbo GT clocked 1:34.32 minutes on the 2.5-mile circuit.

Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Performance
The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid surpassed the previous record held by the Panamera Turbo S by over half a second. The car combines a twin-turbo V8 engine producing 621 bhp with an electric motor for a total system output of 771 bhp and 1,000 Nm of torque. It is equipped with Porsche Active Ride, an active hydraulic suspension system that maintains body stability and tyre contact. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 ND1 tyres were used during the record run with a starting pressure of 37 psi on both front and rear.
According to Porsche, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid accelerates from 0-60 mph (97 kmph) in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 202 mph (325 kmph). The model also features a 25.9 kWh battery pack allowing up to 87 mph (140 kmph) in pure electric mode.
Cayenne Turbo GT Record
The Cayenne Turbo GT recorded a lap time of 1:34.32 minutes, setting the fastest time for a production SUV at Road Atlanta. It is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine producing 650 bhp and 850 Nm of torque. The SUV features updated suspension components, unique hub carriers for kinematic optimisation, and an additional differential cooler to maintain all-wheel drive performance during high-speed runs. Pirelli P Zero Corsa PZC4 NC0 tyres were fitted with a starting pressure of 39 psi front and 38 psi rear.
The Cayenne Turbo GT accelerates from 0-60 mph (97 kmph) in 3.1 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph (305 kmph). The model used in the record run featured a Deep Sea Blue interior with deviated stitching.
Comparison with Taycan Turbo GT
Earlier, the Taycan Turbo GT set an EV lap record at Road Atlanta with a time of 1:27.15 minutes. Although the Panamera and Cayenne remain slower than the Taycan Turbo GT, they established new benchmarks for their respective segments.
Track Conditions During Runs
The record set by Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo GT joins the records set by the company with the Taycan Turbo GT on May 28th 2025. Temperatures were in the mid-70s Fahrenheit with moderate cloud cover. Morning rain had left damp patches on the track surface during the runs.
Hybrid Technology Legacy
Porsche's work with hybrid technology dates back to the 911 GT3 R Hybrid introduced 15 years ago at the Nürburgring endurance race. The system used a flywheel-based hybrid unit with electric motors on each front wheel, influencing future hybrid models including the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
Current Overall Road Atlanta Record
The overall production car lap record at Road Atlanta continues to be held by the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with a time of 1:22.8 minutes.
