Tata Aeris vs Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG Variants Compared: Mileage, Price, Power, Features and More

Both models are available with manual and AMT gearboxes, but there are some key differences in pricing, mileage, features and CNG packaging. Here's how the Tata Aeris CNG compares with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG.

The Tata Aeris CNG has a clear advantage when it comes to the starting price. Its CNG range starts at Rs 6.29 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Smart manual variant and goes up to Rs 9.19 lakh for the top Accomplished MT.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG is priced higher, with the VXi manual costing Rs 8.18 lakh (ex-showroom), while the ZXi manual is priced at Rs 9.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The AMT versions command a premium of roughly Rs 35,000.

Both sedans use 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engines with factory-fitted CNG systems. The Aeris uses a 1,199cc Revotron engine producing around 75.5 PS and 96.5Nm in CNG mode. The Dzire gets Maruti Suzuki's 1,197cc Z-Series engine, which develops around 70 PS and 101-102Nm on CNG. Both cars are offered with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox.

The Aeris has a small power advantage, while the Dzire produces slightly more torque. Tata also uses a twin-cylinder CNG setup, along with features such as direct CNG start and automatic leak detection.

Maruti Suzuki claims 33.73 km/kg for the Dzire CNG manual and up to 36.47 km/kg for the AMT version. The Aeris CNG, meanwhile, is rated at around 26.49 km/kg with the manual and 28.06 km/kg with the AMT.

Actual fuel economy will depend on factors such as traffic, driving style, vehicle load and road conditions. However, the Dzire's higher claimed figures could make a difference for buyers who cover high monthly kilometres.

Both cars measure 3,995 mm in length and have a 2,450 mm wheelbase. However, their dimensions differ in other areas. The Aeris is 1,684 mm wide and 1,532 mm tall, with 170 mm of ground clearance. The Dzire is wider at 1,735 mm but has a slightly lower 1,525 mm height and 163 mm of ground clearance.

The Aeris also has an advantage in luggage space. Its petrol version offers around 419 litres of boot space, compared with 382 litres in the Dzire.

The difference becomes more important with CNG versions. The Aeris uses a twin-cylinder CNG system that leaves around 227 litres of usable luggage space. The Dzire's single CNG tank takes up more of the boot area.

The Aeris comes with a long list of features on higher variants. These include a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera with Blind View Monitor, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and a cooled glovebox.

The Dzire gets a 7-inch to 9-inch touchscreen, depending on the variant, along with wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and wireless charging on higher trims.

Both cars get six airbags and electronic stability control, along with other safety equipment. The Aeris also gets additional CNG-specific safety systems.
